SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Freshman Irene Garbo (Assemini, Sardinia, Italy) picked up her fifth consecutive victory at No. 1 singles on Sunday as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team recorded a 6-1 loss at Le Moyne College.
Saint Anselm falls to 3-6 overall on the season and to 2-3 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Le Moyne moves to 5-3 on the year and to 4-2 against NE10 opponents. The Hawks have four NE10 regular-season matches left and host Adelphi on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 3 p.m.
Garbo was a 6-3, 6-3 victor at the top singles flight for the Hawks, giving her a 7-2 record for the Hawks at the No. 1 position. She is the first Saint Anselm women's tennis student-athlete to reach that many No. 1 singles wins in a season since Jess Perkins '18 had 15 as a senior in 2017-18.
Le Moyne cruised to the doubles point, picking up fast shutout victories at No. 1 and No. 2. The Dolphins also lost just nine games in singles two through six, locking down the win despite Garbo's impressive performance.
