Men's soccer blanked by No. 1 Franklin Pierce

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team suffered a 5-0 loss in the team's regular season home finale to Franklin Pierce University on Wednesday.

The Hawks fall to 7-8-0 overall and 4-6-0 in Northeast-10 Conference play while the Ravens, who are the top-ranked team in the most recent United Soccer Coaches' national poll, remain unbeaten at 15-0-1 on the season and 8-0-1 in NE10 matches. Saint Anselm concludes its regular season on Saturday, Oct. 22 at Le Moyne College with a 2 p.m. opening kickoff.

Senior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) made three saves in the goal for the Hawks while his counterpart, Kosta Maniatis, did not face a shot on goal in the shutout win for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce opened the scoring just 1:55 into the match as Jonas Cervera Anchel collected a through ball from Vincente Valor Martinez sent a left footed shot into the upper left of the goal, giving the visitors an early 1-0 edge.

The Ravens were awarded a penalty kick in the 19th minute and Braudilio Rodrigues would bury the chance on the left side of the goal, pushing the Ravens lead to 2-0.

Valor Martinez cashed in on a goal in the 30th minute to extend the Franklin Pierce lead to 3-0.

Jero Ferrando Ferri and Caleb Williams would find the back of the net in the 47th and 79th minutes on the way to the 5-0 win for the Ravens.

Franklin Pierce attempted 16 shots in the match including eight in each half. Saint Anselm managed four shot attempts, two of which came from sophomore Caden Leader (Durham, N.H.). The Ravens put eight shots on target compared to zero for the Hawks and the visitors held a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks.
