Men's soccer handed season-ending defeat at Le Moyne

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Needing a victory to keep the team's Northeast-10 Conference postseason hopes alive, the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team fell at Le Moyne College by a 1-0 score on Saturday.

Looking to earn a league playoff berth for the first time since the 2009 season, Saint Anselm sees its 2022 campaign come to a close with a 7-9 overall record alongside a 4-7 record in Northeast-10 Conference play.

The win for Le Moyne (6-4-5, 3-3-4 NE10) was significant as the team maintains one of the last postseason berths with one game left in its season.

Much like the conclusion to the 2021 season, the Hawks postseason hopes rested with the final regular season game. On Saturday, a header by Le Moyne's Tom Henne in the 24th minute was the only score of the game, a tilt which featured nine combined yellow cards and two red card ejections.

Staring at a 1-0 deficit at the break, the Hawks performed admirably in the second half, completely dictating the tempo of the game with eight of the final nine shots of the game while earning four corner kicks. Saint Anselm was simply unable to solve Le Moyne netminder Josh Mahr, who finished with six saves for the clean sheet.

Senior goalkeeper Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) made two saves on three shots for the Hawks in net. As of Saturday, he remains the league leader with 88 saves to his credit.
