Saint Anselm enters Wednesday's game play following a narrow 1-0 loss at Saint Thomas Aquinas on Saturday, Oct. 15. The defeat snapped what was a modest three-game winning streak for the Hawks that dated back to Wednesday, Oct. 5 at Saint Michael's.

Southern New Hampshire carries a 3-7 overall record into the Queen City Cup showdown. The Penmen broke up a four-game losing streak last time out with a 3-2 victory over Mercy at home. Mercy will play at Saint Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday before hosting the Hawks on Saturday.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • The No. 10-ranked Hawks were stunned on Saturday, falling to Saint Thomas Aquinas on the road by a 1-0 margin. This week, Saint Anselm fell out of the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association poll for the first time since Nov. 6, 2018.
  • The Hawks controlled the vast majority of the game on offense, outshooting Saint Thomas Aquinas by a 13-5 margin. It was the home team, however, that found the back of the net for the game-winner as Jasmijn Van Drunen's goal in the game's 20th minute was the difference.
  • Senior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) leads Saint Anselm with 12 points of offense via five goals and two assists (5-2=12). Sophomore Amanda Lewandowski (Franklin, Mass.), who scored each of the Hawks goals in a 2-1 victory at Bentley on Wednesday, also has five goals for Saint Anselm.
  • In NE10 contests this season, Saint Anselm has produced more shot attempts than its opponent. The last time a conference opponent has posted more shot attempts than the Hawks during the regular season was Adelphi on Oct. 4, 2021.
  • The Hawks have won 32 of the last 36 games played at home since the start of the 2018 season. Carolyn King-Robitaille, in the midst of her 11th season as Head Coach at Saint Anselm has won 124 games with just 64 losses (.660) in her tenure on the Hilltop.

SCOUTING SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • Southern New Hampshire comes into play on Wednesday with a 3-7 overall record. The Penmen have defeated Mercy (N.Y.), Bentley and Saint Michael's this season.
  • Last time out, SNHU posted a hard-fought double-overtime loss at Franklin Pierce on Saturday, Oct. 8. The Penmen held the advantage in shots (13-to-10) and shots on goal (10-to-5), but Franklin Pierce took advantage of back-to-back penalty corners in overtime for the winner.
  • Annemartine Christis is her team's leader in point scoring, racking up three goals with as many assists for nine points (3-3=9). Emma Thibodeau also has posted three goals for Southern New Hampshire.
  • Backstop Emma Peeters is averaging exactly seven saves per game, ranking sixth in the NE10 and 10th nationally.

SCOUTING MERCY (N.Y.)

  • The Mavericks are off to their best start in program history with four wins in their first six games to date. Should Mercy (N.Y.) defeat Saint Thomas Aquinas on Wednesday, the Mavericks would equal their team record for most overall victories in a season.
  • Alyssa Sacco scored two goals for Mercy against Southern New Hampshire in its prior game, a 3-2 loss at Southern New Hampshire. The host Penmen outshot the Mavericks by a 27-11 margin and earned 24 of the game's 30 penalty corner opportunities.
  • Behind Sacco, the team's leader with 14 points via six goals and two assists (6-2=14), Rieley Fitzgerald has produced two goals and four assists for eight points (2-4=8). Lauren Viscione has played in each game for the Mavericks in goal, posting a 2.00 goals-against average and an .810 save percentage.
  • Mercy (N.Y.) was picked to finish 13th by the NE10 coaches, according to the league's Preseason Coaches' Poll released in August.

ALL-TIME vs. SOUTHERN NEW HAMPSHIRE

  • Saint Anselm has won each of the 13 all-time meetings between both programs. Southern New Hampshire revived its dormant field hockey program prior to the 2014-15 academic year under the care of Head Coach Julie Munson.
  • The Hawks have outscored SNHU by a combined 35-to-9 margin since the first meeting on Oct. 25, 2014, a 5-0 victory for Saint Anselm. The last four games between the programs were won by the Hawks via shutout.
  • Saint Anselm won its first NE10 postseason title in 2019, defeating nationally-ranked Southern New Hampshire at Grappone Stadium on Sunday, Nov. 10.

ALL-TIME vs. MERCY (N.Y.)

  • Saint Anselm is 7-1 in the all-time series against the Mavericks – the Hawks have come out on top in each of the last six games dating back to Sept. 7, 2014.
  • The Hawks have allowed just one goal to Mercy in the last six meetings combined. In total, Saint Anselm has outscored the Mavericks by a 21-to-1 margin in that span.
  • Mercy came away with a 2-0 win against the Hawks on Oct. 12, 2013 at Grappone Stadium, the team's second-ever NCAA Division II victory for the fledgling program. The team's Head Coach at the time was Kayte Kinsley, who now heads up the field hockey team at Pace.
