ALBANY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team was blanked by No. 8 ranked nationally, the College of Saint Rose, on Saturday by a 2-0 score.
With the loss, the Hawks fall to 6-4-1 overall and 2-4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference play. The Golden Knights remain unbeaten at 9-0-2 on the season and move to 5-0-2 against league opponents. Saint Anselm is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 8 when they welcome American International College to the Hilltop for a 3 p.m. opening kickoff.
Freshman
Emma Hudson (Kingston, Mass.) made three saves on five shots on goal for Saint Anselm while
Pia Bozic posted a three-save shutout for Saint Rose.
Senior
Kathryn White (Georgetown, Mass.) sent a free-kick from about 30 yards on goal in the fifth minute for the Hawks which marked the best scoring chance of the opening 45 for Saint Anselm.
Emilie Kristensen opened the scoring in the 19th minute as she put a through ball into the back of the goal, beating Hudson in the bottom right of the goal.
In the first half, Saint Rose was awarded 10 corner kicks to none for the Hawks. The hosts also held an 8-2 to edge in shots with a 3-2 advantage in shots on goal.
The Golden Knights doubled their lead in the 49th minute when
Madelyn Wania converted on a long shot from about 30 yards out, sneaking its way into the back of the net just underneath the crossbar.
Freshman
Zarina Pinto (Groveland, Mass.) put a shot on Bozic in the 59th minute which ultimately would be the last strong scoring chance for the Hawks in the match.
The Golden Knights fired 14 shots compared to five for the Hawks the match and put held a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal. Saint Rose also earned 14 corner kicks to four for Saint Anselm.
