Box Score WALTHAM, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team was doubled up by Bentley University on Saturday, 2-1.
Saint Anselm (6-4), ranked ninth in the East Region entering the day, has lost three matches in a row and four of its last five, evening its record in Northeast-10 Conference play at 3-3. Bentley (3-4-3) improves to 2-2-1 versus the conference.
Senior Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) scored the lone Hawks goal of the game, creating a 1-0 advantage in the game's 23rd minute. Bentley responded, however, just under five minutes later with an equalizer that was poked home by Yusuf Baig.
The eventual game-winner was scored less than one minute after a shot by sophomore Samuel Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of the Congo) was denied by Bentley netminder Eduardo Bomfim. Following a throw-in with around 25 minutes left in the game, Bentley's Grant Larson was able to score his first of the season from 10 yards out to take the lead.
Saint Anselm mustered just two shot attempts in the game's final 20-plus minutes as Bentley held on for the victory. The Hawks fired 13 of the game's 24 shots, but placed just four of those on frame.
Bomfim finished with three saves on four shots, earning the victory, while Hawks netminder Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) made four stops on six shots.
The Hawks head to the No. 2 team in NCAA Division II, Franklin Pierce, on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 7 p.m. in non-league play.
