The Hawks were unbeaten through their first five games but have fallen in each of their last five contests, including their last time out against Franklin Pierce University on Dec. 14 by a 5-3 score. Saint Anselm is 4-5-1 on the season with a 1-2-1 mark in conference play. After the matchup with the Purple Knights, the Hawks head to the W.B. Mason Winter Classic, hosted by SUNY Plattsburgh on Friday, Jan. 7 and Saturday, Jan. 8. The squad opens the tournament on Friday against Albertus Magnus.
The Purple Knights fell to Middlebury College in the Friends of Panther Hockey Classic on New Year's Day by a 5-1 score, which stood as the only contest played in the tournament. Saint Michael's was slated to play the loser of Fitchburg State University and Hobart College on Jan. 2. The Purple Knights are now 1-6-0 overall and 1-2-0 against NE10 opponents.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks opened the season unbeaten through their first five games (4-0-1), marking the best start to a season since the 2007-08 squad posted a 2-0-3 record through its first five games. Since then, Saint Anselm has dropped its last five contests leading to the holiday break. The Hawks have been outscored by a 26-13 margin in that span.
- Saint Anselm was scheduled to compete in the SUNY Canton tournament just after Thanksgiving, which would have given the the team 12 consecutive contests away from Sullivan Arena. With the cancellation of the tournament, Saint Anselm is now playing its third of 10 straight games on the road.
- Senior co-captain Kilian Hammersmith (Glen Ellyn, Ill.), freshman Luke Mix (Winchester, Mass.), and senior Kevin Ouellette (Arlington, Mass.) netted the three Hawks goals against Franklin Pierce on Dec. 14. Junior Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) leads the team with six goals on the season.
- Andary and junior Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) recorded two assists each against Ravens. Hayes leads the team and ranks fifth in the NE10 in assists with seven while Andary sits in third on the squad with five helpers. Hammersmith has six helpers to rank second on the Hawks.
- Andary leads the team in points at 11 which is good for eighth most in the conference. Hayes is second on the Hawks with nine while Hammersmith and Ouellette are tied for third with eight points each.
- Junior Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) has started all 10 games in goal for Saint Anselm. He has accumulated 273 saves with a 3.02 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage. Howard ranks second in the NE10 in goals-against average and saves while ranking fifth in save percentage.
- Saint Anselm has lit the lamp 30 times this season while allowing 34 goals. The Hawks are converting on the power play at a 12.2% (5-41) rate. Saint Anselm has been shorthanded on 48 occasions, killing off penalties 77.1% (11-48) of the time.
SCOUTING SAINT MICHAEL'S
- The Purple Knights captured a season-opening win over Franklin Pierce on Nov. 19. Since then, the team has lost its last six contests, falling to 1-6-0 on the season and 1-2-0 in conference play. Saint Michael's has had three games postponed or canceled this season including its most recent contest, which would have come in the consolation game of the Friends of Panther Hockey Classic on Jan. 2.
- Connor Redden leads the team with three goals. Two of Redden's three goals have come on the power play. Case Kantgias and Cameron Stewart have found the back of the net twice this season. Nine other student-athletes have scored once this season.
- Matt Egan, Thomas Flack, Brennan McFarland, Sel Narby, and Matt Schreiner are tied for the team lead with three assists each.
- Flack, Narby, and Stewart are tied for the team lead with four points. Flack and Narby have found the twine once and assisted on three goals while Stewart has scored twice and assisted two others.
- Hugo Turcotte and Marshall Murphy have split time in the goal for the Purple Knights. Turcotte has drawn four starts and holds a 3.81 goals-against average and a .894 save percentage while Murphy has started the other three contests and has a .890 save percentage, conceding 3.38 goals per game.
- Saint Michael's, the NE10 preseason favorite, has netted 16 goals but allowed 28. The team is six-for-42 on the power play, converting at a rate of 14.3%. The Purple Knights have allowed three goals in 17 shorthanded scenarios, killing penalties at 82.4%.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT MICHAEL'S
- This will be the 43rd meeting between the two programs as Saint Anselm is 25-14-3 against Saint Michael's all-time.
- The Purple Knights took the three game set in 2019-20, two games to one. The Hawks captured a 3-2 win in overtime on Nov. 9, 2019 before falling by a pair of 5-4 scores on Feb. 1, 2020 and Feb. 2, 2020.
- When playing on the road against Saint Michael's, the Hawks are 11-7-2 while posting a 14-7-1 record at home.
