MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team plays its final non-conference contests of the season when the team heads to NCAA Division I Long Island University for a pair of tilts on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22.

The Hawks snapped a seven-game losing skid on Jan. 14 with a 5-1 win over Post University before sweeping the weekend series with a 4-0 victory on Saturday. Saint Anselm improves to 6-7-1 on the season and 3-4-1 in Northeast-10 Conference action. After the non-conference finale with LIU, the Hawks host Saint Michael's College on Friday, Jan. 28 and Saturday Jan. 29, marking their first home contests since Nov. 23 when the Hawks hosted LIU. The contests will be part of the Hawks' Pink in the Rink celebration.
The Sharks are in the midst of a seven-game losing skid, falling by a 6-0 score to Northeastern University on Jan. 8. Since the two squads met in the end of November, the Sharks are 1-7, posting a 7-4 win over Miami (Ohio) University. During the stretch, the Sharks have lost to Miami, Quinnipiac University, Ohio State University, and Northeastern with the final three schools in that list all nationally ranked. After hosting the Hawks, the Sharks head to Brown University on Sunday, Jan. 30.
Fans attending the contests at the Norwell Health Ice Center are expected to familiarize themselves with the Long Island University
spectator policy.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks swept the NE10 Conference weekly awards after their weekend sweep of Post. Juniors Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) and Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) were named the Player of the Week and Goaltender of the Week while sophomore Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) collected the Rookie of the Week honor.
- Andary netted five goals and assisted on four during the Hawks three-game week last week. The junior alternate captain assisted the Saint Anselm goal against Assumption University before netting his first collegiate hat trick on Friday and following that up with two goals and two assists in Saturday's shutout win. Andary currently leads the NE10 in points (22) and is tied for the lead in goals (11) and assists (11). He is riding a six-game point streak where he has five goals and nine assists for 14 points.
- Schwartz posted a goal and five assists on the week which puts him in second on the team with 12 points and six goals while tied for fourth with six assists. Schwartz recorded an assist against Assumption before collecting three helpers on Friday and concluding the week with a goal and an assist.
- Senior Kevin Ouellette (Arlington, Mass.) sits in third on the team in points with four goals and seven helpers while sophomore Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) moved to fourth on the squad after a two goal, three assist week. He now has four goals and six assists for 10 points.
- Howard, who is a three-time recipient of the Goaltender of the Week accolade, stopped 86 shots on goal in the three contests. He posted his second shutout of the season, making 32 saves in Saturday's win. Howard ranks second in the NE10 in goals-against average (2.59), second in save percentage (.911), and first in total saves (376).
- On the season, Saint Anselm is 8-59 on the power play, good for a 13.6% conversion rate. The Hawks are killing off penalties at 82.4%, allowing 12 goals on 68 times shorthanded.
SCOUTING LONG ISLAND
- The Sharks have posted three wins over NE10 schools this season, grabbing wins over Assumption on Oct. 22 and Post on Oct. 23 and then on Nov. 23 over the Hawks. In those contests, LIU holds a 17-1 scoring advantage.
- Jordan Timmons leads the LIU scoring with six goals on the season. Billy Jerry and Spencer Cox follow closely with five goals each.
- Jerry, who is a Hobey Baker Award nominee, leads the team with 11 assists while Jake Stevens ranks second on the squad with eight helpers. Jerry is the team leader with 16 points with Timmons in second with 12.
- Kris Carlson is 2-7-3 on the season in 12 starts. He has a .869 save percentage and a 3.82 goals-against average. Vincent Purpura has drawn seven starts and is 1-6-0. He holds a .884 save percentage and a 3.72 goals against.
- The Sharks have netted 13 goals on 93 power play opportunities, converting at 14%. The team has allowed 23 goals on 83 penalty kills, good for a 72.3% rate.
ALL-TIME vs. LONG ISLAND
- This will be the second and third meetings in the all-time series between the Hawks and Sharks with LIU holding a 1-0-0 mark against Saint Anselm.
- Earlier this season, the teams met on Nov. 23, resulting in a 4-0 victory for the Sharks. That was the first contest of the all-time series.
- Saint Anselm is 85-120-5 against current NCAA Division I opponents. The Hawks have historically competed against 18 programs who presently play at the Division I level.
