SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Senior forward Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) was named to the Watch List for the 2021 Bevo Francis Award, issued annually to the student-athlete who posts the "finest overall season" within small college basketball, over the weekend.
  • Across 12 games in 2021-22, Paul is averaging career-high marks in points per game (19.8), rebounds per game (8.3) and assists per game (3.8), helping his team to an 8-4 record to date. Leading the Northeast-10 Conference in free throws made (59) and free throw attempts (84), Paul ranks fourth in points per game while playing the second-most minutes per game in the league (36.2).
  • Riding a 28-game streak with double-digit point scoring totals that dates back to Jan. 11, 2020, Paul has scored north of 20 points in six of his 12 games as a senior and has logged three double-doubles. His 1,613 career points is ranked 13th among active NCAA Division II student-athletes and he is one of just five in the nation to have at least 1,500 career points and 700 career rebounds.
  • Against Adelphi, Paul led the Hawks with 19 points while junior Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) netted 18 points. Senior Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) was responsible for 17 points and Arbuckle and sophomore Matt Becker (Fairfield, Conn.) led the Hawks with six boards each. Arbuckle led Saint Anselm with five assists.
  • With the score even at 50 against Adelphi late in the game, Saint Anselm would use a 10-point run to take control of the contest as Suhr-Jessen, Arbuckle, and Paul all found scores in the stretch that gave the Hawks a 60-50 lead with 5:39 left in regulation. Saint Anselm went on to win by a score of 74-65, a nine-point margin of victory.
  • Saint Anselm shot a season-high 55.6% from the floor last time out against Adelphi. The Hawks have made at least 25 field goals in every game this season.

  • The Chargers have shot over 50% from the floor on six occasions this season, including each of the last two games. Against Bentley on Jan. 11 and Stonehill on Jan. 15, New Haven combined to make 21 of their 42 three-point field goals (21-for-42).
