MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team used a 21-6 second-half scoring run over the visiting University of New Haven on Wednesday, locking down a 67-60 victory over the Chargers in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm ups its overall record to 9-4, winning four games in a row while moving to 5-3 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. New Haven, playing in a rematch of the 2020 NE10 title game against the Hawks, falls to 10-6 on the season and to 6-5 versus the league.

Senior Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark) keyed his team's big run in the second half, scoring seven of his team's 21 points in that spurt to finish with 15 points and 10 rebounds for the game. Senior Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) had a team-leading 17 points, knocking down five triples and handing out a game-high six assists.

A 15-6 scoring run by New Haven gave the visitors a game-high lead of eight points, 29-21, with 4:29 left in the first half. The Hawks had gone cold from the floor, making just two of its 10 field goals in that stretch. Saint Anselm received momentum going into the break, however, keeping New Haven off the board for the remainder of the first half while scoring eight consecutive points.

Down by seven points with 14:18 left in regulation time, the Hawks pulled away by scoring 21 of the game's next 27 points to capture a 59-51 lead with 5:14 to go. New Haven trimmed the Hawks lead to just three points, 61-58 with 2:01 remaining before a clutch jumper by Paul, set up by Tention, upped the hosts' advantage to 63-58 with 95 seconds left.

New Haven mustered just three free throws in the game's final three-plus minutes as the Hawks were able to stave off the comeback by the Chargers. Saint Anselm was fueled by five-of-seven makes from distance while burying 10 of its final 12 free throws, securing the win at the charity stripe.

Saint Anselm won the rebounding battle, 45-to-40, despite New Haven's Majur Majak collecting 17 of his team's caroms. The Chargers controlled the paint, 32-to-18, but the Hawks logged 11 second-chance points and handed out 15 of the game's 22 assists.

The Hawks return to action on Saturday, Jan. 22, taking on Le Moyne at 3:30 p.m. in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium.
