SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • In the 68-39 victory for Saint Anselm on Tuesday, sophomore Gabby Turco (Wildwood, N.J.) led all student-athletes with 18 points while senior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) and sophomore Alexa Quirolo (New Rochelle, N.Y.) added 16 and 12 points each, respectively.
  • Senior Stephanie Jankovic (Averill Park, N.Y.) netted nine points and grabbed a career-high 11 boards against the Yellow Jackets, coming up just one point shy of a double-double while setting a single-season record for point scoring (32).
  • Freshman Katie Lemanski (Haymarket, Va.) posted career-high figures in rebounds (six) and assists (four) in what was her first extended action of the season (34 minutes). Quirolo's 12 points was also a career-high figure.
  • With a 14-for-14 performance at the free throw line against AIC, Saint Anselm was perfect (with at least 14 made free throws) for just the third time in team history. The Hawks previously made all 14 free throw attempts against Southern New Hampshire on Dec. 21, 2008 and, most recently, versus Fort Hays State on Dec. 19, 2019.
  • Prior to Tuesday, Saint Anselm had not held an opponent to 40 points or less since Mar. 15, 2019 when the Hawks held Bentley to 40 in the First Round of the 2019 NCAA Division II East Region Championship.
  • Steinman ranks fourth in NCAA Division II with 81 free throws made and is ninth in free throw attempts with 94. Her 19.5 points per game rank third in the NE10 and 21st nationally – she plays the 10th most minutes in the conference, on average (35.46).
  • The Hawks commit just 13.8 turnovers per game, leading the NE10 while ranking 32nd nationally. Saint Anselm also owns the league lead in team free throws made (188) and has handed out 149 assists to date, ranking fourth in the NE10.
MILESTONE WATCH
  • Steinman needs just three assists to reach 300 in her four-year career. Only nine student-athletes in team history have reached 300 career assists, with Candace Andrews '17 the most recent student-athlete to accomplish that feat.
  • Steinman is also 21 points away from taking sole possession of seventh place on the all-time scoring list for Saint Anselm, entering play on Saturday with 1,458 career points.
  • Steinman needs just one steal on Saturday to reach 150 in her career.

PREVIEWING THE PANTHERS

  • A long-time nemesis of Saint Anselm, Adelphi is coming off a 27-3 overall record in 2019-20 that was highlighted by a 17-2 record in the regular season of NE10 play. The Panthers were ousted from the NE10 postseason by Saint Anselm, 70-59, and were set to compete in the 2020 NCAA Division II East Region Championship as the No. 1 seed against Jefferson before its cancellation.
  • Head Coach Sade Jackson, a 2014 graduate of Adelphi, is in the midst of her first season with the Panthers. Despite a 4-8 overall record, Adelphi ranks second in the NE10 with a 2.5 turnover margin. The team also ranks third with 74 three-point field goals made and averages 4.1 shot rejections, placing fourth among the NE10 membership.
  • Emma Cuccurullo leads the NE10 with 25 steals and Emily Miccile is right behind in fourth place, logging 24 takeaways. Miccile has also produced 18 blocked shots, the fourth-most in the NE10, and has made 43 free throws to rank fifth in the league.
  • Adelphi was picked to finish first in the Southwest Division of the NE10 this year, according to the league's preseason coaches' poll.

ALL-TIME vs. ADELPHI

  • Saint Anselm owns an 10-3 record against Adelphi in the all-time series. The Hawks have won each of the last five games since a 67-56 victory on Jan. 6, 2018.
  • Each of the last two wins by Saint Anselm over Adelphi have come with the Panthers firmly in the national rankings. The Hawks toppled No. 5/12 Adelphi by a 72-61 margin in Stoutenburgh Gymnasium on Jan. 18, 2020 before edging the No. 5/8 Panthers by a 70-59 score in the NE10 Semifinals
  • Shannon Ryan '20 led the Saint Anselm offense with 35 points to her credit in that NE10 Semifinals victory, reeling in a game-high 19 rebounds for the Hawks. Steinman, then a junior, contributed 18 points, shooting 7-for-14 from the floor while exiting play with a career-high 100 rebounds on the season.
