The Hawks fell to Assumption University in Northeast-10 Conference play on Jan. 11 by a 2-1 score. With the loss, Saint Anselm drops its seventh consecutive contest after opening the season unbeaten through its first five games. The Hawks are 4-7-1 overall and 1-4-1 in NE10 play. After the weekend pair with the Eagles, Saint Anselm concludes its eight-game road trip and its non-conference schedule against Long Island University on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22.
The Eagles fell to Morrisville State by a 1-0 score on Jan. 12. Post played just its second game of the new year as they had two contests postponed in the dating back to Jan. 8. The Eagles are now 5-7-0 on their season with a 3-2-0 mark in conference play. After hosting the Hawks, Post heads to Saint Michael's College for a weekend pair with the Purple Knights on Friday, Jan. 21 and Saturday, Jan. 22.
Fans attending the contests are expected to familiarize themselves with the Post University
spectator policy.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- The Hawks held a 1-0 advantage through 40 minutes of play against Assumption. Sophomore Will Christensen (Ridgefield, Conn.) netted his third goal of the season in the first period but a pair of goals just 28 seconds apart for the Greyhounds powered them to a 2-1 victory.
- Junior alternate captain Andrew Andary (Macomb, Mich.) extended his point streak to four games with the secondary assist on Christensen's goal. He now leads the Hawks in goals (6), assists (8), and points (14). Andary ranks inside the top-10 in the NE10 in all three categories.
- Sophomore Tommy Schwartz (Ridgefield, Conn.) collected the primary assist on the goal against Assumption. Schwartz is second on the Hawks in goals with five.
- Junior Matt Hayes (Salem, N.H.) sits in second on the squad with seven helpers while seniors Kevin Ouellette (Arlington, Mass.) and Kilian Hammersmith (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) are tied for third with six each.
- Junior goaltender Nick Howard (Burlington, Mass.) has made at least 21 saves in all but one contest this season. He has started each game for the Hawks and holds a 2.94 goals-against average and a .901 save percentage.
- Against the Greyhounds, Saint Anselm was scoreless in its three power play chances, pushing them to an 11.3% (6-53) conversion rate this season. The Hawks are killing off their penalties at 80.7%, allowing 11 goals in 57 shorthanded scenarios.
SCOUTING POST
- The Eagles were selected to finish seventh in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll have split their two contests to open 2022, capturing a 5-3 win over Albertus Magnus on Jan. 4 before falling to Morrisville on Jan. 12.
- John Krapian leads Post in goals scored with five while Kieran Gardner follows closely with four tallies.
- Brandon Crowther is the team leader with six helpers on the season. Gardner is joined by Niko Grollman and Patrick Murphy in a tie for second on the squad with five assists each.
- Gardner and Crowther rank one and two on the team in points with nine and seven, respectively. Murphy, Krapian, Grollman, and Jack Engdahl are all tied for third with six.
- Brandon Brown has started 11 games in net for the Eagles. He is 4-7-0 on the season with a 3.39 goals-against average and a .908 save percentage. Drew Blodgett has one start in two appearances with a 3.00 goals against and a .889 save percentage.
- The Eagles have netted seven power play goals on 53 chances, good for a 13.2% conversion rate. They have been shorthanded on 52 occasions and have allowed seven goals which gives them a penalty kill percentage of 86.5%.
ALL-TIME vs. POST
- The weekend series marks the ninth and 10th meetings between the squads. The Hawks are undefeated through the first eight meetings.
- During the 2019-20 season, the teams played two one-goal games before Saint Anselm captured a 6-0 victory in the last meeting on Jan. 18. The Hawks outscored the Eagles by eight goals in the three game set.
- After opening the all-time series with a pair of games at Sullivan Arena on Nov. 17, 2017 and Nov. 18, 2017, the Hawks won four consecutive games on the road against Post.
