MANSFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) announced the nomination of
Dr. Jaime Orrego for the fifth annual 2021 Dr. Dave Landers Faculty Mentor Award, issued by the Northeast-10 Conference in recognition of one's support and dedication to an institution's student-athletes.
There are 14 nominations, one from each Northeast-10 Conference school, and the honoree will be announced
Monday, June 7, as part of a pre-recorded live awards show on the
NE10 Now Network – the conference's digital streaming platform.
The award is named after
Dr. Dave Landers, a longtime professor and faculty athletic representative (FAR) at Saint Michael's College. In June of 2016, the NE10 Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) created the Faculty Mentor Award, organized and voted on by a committee made up of current NE10 SAAC members. The winner will have his or her nomination forwarded on to the NCAA as the league's nomination for the Division II Dr. Dave Pariser Faculty Mentor Award, launched by the NCAA Division II SAAC in 2013.
Orrego, the Associate Professor of Modern Languages and Literature at Saint Anselm, has been a part of the Hilltop community for almost 12 years. An avid supporter of the Hawks and many student-athletes on campus, he can regularly be seen in the stands at home sporting events and enjoys the day-to-day interactions with Anselmians.
He continually goes out of his way to support the student-athletes and gets other students and faculty to follow in his footsteps. Additionally, he is dedicated to helping students succeed in the classroom and always willing to spend extra time with them to better their learning experience, both on and off the playing surface.
Last year's nominee for Saint Anselm was Orrego and the year before,
Kelly Lalonde, an Associate Professor and Department Chair for the Economics and Business major, was put forward. In the first year of this award, Saint Anselm nominated
Dr. Benjamin Horton '12, the Assistant Director of the Academic Resource Center. His selection in 2016-17 was followed by the nomination of
Dr. David Guerra, the College's present-day Faculty Athletics Representative, in 2017-18.
Orrego was most recently selected for one of the two January 2020 "Hawks Soar Higher" Awards, an honor to recognize individuals that are instrumental to the College's efforts to offer a first-class, transformational student-athlete experience.
