MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College men's lacrosse team will host the Greyhounds from Assumption University on Saturday at high noon.

Saint Anselm, the No. 14-ranked team in NCAA Division II, has won eight consecutive games dating back to the pandemic-shortened 2020 season. This year, the Hawks own an unblemished 5-0 record with all five wins coming against Northeast-10 Conference opponents.

Assumption, receiving votes in the USILA National Coaches' Poll, owns an 0-2 record after its first two games of the season were postponed. The team was 2-2 last year, winning its first two games by a combined 44-13 margin but then dropping the final two contests by scores of 17-12 and 12-9 to Lenoir-Rhyne and Catawba, respectively.

No spectators of any kind are permitted to attend sporting events hosted by Saint Anselm, either on campus or off campus. This policy includes students, student-athletes, fans, parents, and College faculty and staff. Only staff members working the game in an official capacity will be permitted at the site of competition.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • Last time out, Saint Anselm captured a 20-7 victory over visiting Southern New Hampshire University on Wednesday. The Hawks fired 76 shots against the Penmen, reaching at least 73 shots for the second consecutive game. Additionally, the Hawks posted 16 assists, 36 points of offense and 21 face-off victories as a team, ranking 10th in single-game team history in all three metrics.
  • Senior Griffin Shoemaker (Shirley, Mass.) scored four goals against Southern New Hampshire and added two assists for a team-leading six points (4-2=6). Classmate Ryan Richards (Mendon, Mass.) returned to the field for the Hawks, posting two goals and three assists for five points (2-3=5) and sophomore Jack Andrews (Cumberland, R.I.) was responsible for three goals and an assist for four points (3-1=4).
  • Sophomore Jack Robinson (Wilbraham, Mass.) also had a strong game against the Penmen, scoring a goal and tying for the team lead with three assists. Sophomore Craig Yannone (Lynnfield, Mass.) won 19-of-27 face-offs with senior Ryan Melley (Reading, Mass.) picking up two wins. Senior Joseph Hartigan (Brookline, Mass.) led the way defensively with two caused turnovers.
  • Ward now owns a 10-game goal scoring streak, logging 30 in that span, and his point-scoring streak is at 16 games. He has scored 42 goals with eight assists for 50 points (42-8=50) since taking the field against Merrimack on Apr. 2, 2019.
  • Shoemaker owns a 12-game point streak that dates back to Apr. 16, 2019 at Saint Michael's. He has scored 24 goals with nine assists for 33 points (24-9=33) and his team is 11-1 across that span of games.
  • Senior CJ Hart (Reading, Mass.) and Yannone were named to the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association's Division II Team of the Week on Tuesday.
  • At Franklin Pierce, Hart posted six saves on 11 shots and later rejected all six shots faced in the first half against Saint Michael's. On the season, he has allowed just 24 goals on 58 shots, posting a .586 save percentage and a 5-0 record in goal for Saint Anselm.
  • Yannone won 31 of his 39 face-offs across the two games, recording a .794 winning percentage last week. On the season, he has won 72 of his 118 draws (.610) and has also contributed with 31 ground balls. He has posted at least 14 face-off victories in each of the last four games played.
  • Andrews has scored at least three goals in each of his five games this season, racking up 18 total goals and two assists for 20 points (18-2=20).
  • Freshman Nick Larsen (Northborough, Mass.) has posted three goals and 10 assists for 13 points (3-10=13) while twin brother Noah Larsen (Northborough, Mass. has chipped in with six goals and as many assists for 12 points (6-6=12).
  • Melley has logged hat tricks in each of his last two games, racking up six ground balls against Saint Michael's with a 9-for-12 record on face-offs against the Purple Knights. He has posted a career-high seven goals this season through just five games.
  • Saint Anselm has posted a 26-12 record since the start of the 2018 season and has made the last four NE10 postseason tournaments.
SCOUTING THE GREYHOUNDS
  • Assumption has posted a 10-11 record in the last three seasons under third-year Head Coach Guy Bourdon. Across the last decade of play, the Greyhounds have posted a 46-73 record and won nine games in a season most recently in the 2015 campaign.
  • The Greyhounds were picked to finish sixth in the NE10 Preseason Coaches' Poll to start the year. Senior Nicholas Shanley led the Greyhounds in the pandemic-shortened season with seven goals and 13 assists for 20 points (7-13=20) and classmate Tyler Grant won 33-of-66 face-offs and earned a team-leading 12 ground balls.
  • No student-athletes on the Greyhounds has more than three points on the season. Freshman Ryan Healey leads the way among offensive student-athletes with six ground balls and classmate Cooper Joyal has 10 ground balls and a team-best three caused turnovers on defense.
  • Freshman Colin Malone has conceded 32 goals on 62 shots, posting a .484 save percentage and an 0-2 overall record in goal. Through two games, the Greyhounds have won less than half of their face-offs (23-for-51, .451).
ALL TIME vs. ASSUMPTION
  • Saint Anselm leads the all-time series against Assumption by a 19-7 margin. The Hawks carry a four-game winning streak over the Greyhounds into play on Saturday and have won six of the last seven games against Assumption.
  • After dropping the first two meetings in team history during the 1994 and 1995 seasons, the Hawks enjoyed an eight-game winning streak from Apr. 17, 1996 through Apr. 27, 2003. The Greyhounds have never defeated Saint Anselm three times in a row.
