PAXTON, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team posted a 6-1 loss to Assumption University on Wednesday at the Paxton Tennis & Fitness Club.
Saint Anselm concludes the regular season of play with a 2-8 record, both overall and against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. With all 11 teams earning a spot in the 2021 NE10 Women's Tennis Championship, the Hawks will play a First Round contest on Sunday, Apr. 25 against an opponent to be determined.
The Hawks will be competing in their first postseason contest since the 2010-11 campaign. A win in the NE10 First Round would be the team's first since Apr. 24, 2004, a 5-1 decision over Saint Michael's in the NE10 Semifinals that earned Saint Anselm a berth to the NE10 Championship match.
Assumption won all three doubles matches with the closest of the day coming at No. 3 doubles. Reigning NE10 Rookie of the Week Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) partnered with junior Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) to record a 6-2 loss in the No. 3 singles showdown.
In the final match of the afternoon to be completed, sophomore Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) finished with a 6-3, 6-4 loss to Assumption's Caitlin Sze.
A comprehensive postseason preview for Saint Anselm will be posted closer to the match.
