COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 victory over Saint Michael's College on Friday at the Tarrant Recreation Center.
Saint Anselm moves to 1-6 overall on the season with a matching record in Northeast-10 Conference play. The 7-0 win was the first shutout victory for Saint Anselm since Oct. 1, 2017, a 9-0 blanking of Franklin Pierce. Saint Michael's drops to 0-7 overall and against NE10 opponents in 2021.
"I couldn't be prouder of the way the team played today," said Head Coach
Matt Tiberii following the shutout. "We have been working all season to stay calm during matches, and it paid off this afternoon with the win."
The Hawks dropped just one game across No. 1 and No. 2 doubles play, securing the 1-0 lead in the match. Sophomore
Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and senior
Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) picked up a 6-1 win at No. 2 doubles win and the tandem of
Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) logged a 6-0 win at the top doubles flight.
Winning by default at No. 6 singles, Bulpitt followed at No. 3 singles with a 6-0, 6-0 victory before Bolduc locked down a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to secure the overall win for Saint Anselm.
Jacy followed with a 6-2, 6-1 win at No. 1 singles before Kapothanasis battled her way to a 6-1, 6-2 victory at No. 2. Sophomore
Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 5 singles, the first win of her collegiate career.
Saint Anselm will return to action Sunday, Apr. 18 for a 12 p.m. showdown against Southern New Hampshire University in Hooksett, N.H.
