MANCHESTER, N.H. – In the first on-campus athletics event since Mar. 7, 2020, the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team came out on the losing end of a 4-0 result to Southern New Hampshire University on Sunday in the Carr Activities Center.
Saint Anselm falls to 0-1 on the year while the Penmen move to 1-0 in their University's first action of the 2020-21 academic year. The Hawks return to action on Sunday, Mar. 21, traveling to Franklin Pierce for a 1 p.m. match against the Ravens.
Southern New Hampshire eased its way into a 1-0 lead, sweeping all three doubles matches. Seniors
Maikah Bulpitt (Cumberland, R.I.) and
Dominique Bolduc (Manchester, N.H.) battled to the closest result, ultimately falling by a 6-2 score to the No. 2 doubles tandem from SNHU.
Playing only to a decision, Southern New Hampshire earned three quick singles victories to end the match. Sophomore
Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) fell in the first set, 6-3, but rallied to post a 6-1 score in set two to force a decisive third stanza before falling to
Alexxa Etienne.
Freshman
Elizabeth Janiak (Nashua, N.H.) made her collegiate debut for Saint Anselm, playing alongside junior
Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) at No. 1 doubles.
