SAINT ANSELM QUICK HITS

  • Saint Anselm has concluded the 2021 season with a 3-1 record at home, its best winning percentage (.750) since logging a 4-1 record at Grappone Stadium in 2001. The team's only loss on the Hilltop came to nationally-ranked Bentley, who has since risen to No. 11 in the AFCA Division II National Coaches' Poll.
  • The Saint Anselm defense allowed just 38 yards to the AIC offensive unit in the second half, who got on the board with a defensive touchdown following a Saint Anselm fumble. The Hawks defense also logged two interceptions as senior Liam Flynn (Hanover, Mass.) returned his first career pick 27 yards. Junior Devin Williams (Cliffwood, N.J.) also had an interception, bringing it back 16 yards.
  • Junior Vincent Wagner (Staten Island, N.Y.) led his team with 35 carries, reaching triple-digit rushing yards for the second consecutive game with a career-high 153 on the ground. The 35 rushing attempts for Wagner are tied for the third-most in any game by a Saint Anselm student-athlete. In his last two games, he has totaled 286 rushing yards on 56 carries to average just shy of seven yards per attempt.
  • Saint Anselm exploded for 61 points in its last game against Assumption, a convincing victory to cap the 2019 season. The Hawks compiled 721 yards of total offense en route to scoring the second-most points scored in any game in the Hawks' modern day football history.
  • Saint Anselm ranks 11th in NCAA Division II and leads the Northeast-10 Conference with 308.2 yards of passing offense, on average. The Hawks have also packed a defensive punch, logging 8.4 team tackles per loss across its seven-game schedule to date.
  • Sophomore quarterback Drew Willoughby (Austin, Texas) is second nationally in completions per game (27.25) and ninth in passing yards per game (305.1). Junior Anthony Brown (Belton, Texas) checks in by averaging 14.5 yards per punt return, the ninth-best mark in NCAA Division II. Brown also averages 82.9 receiving yards per game, good enough to rank in the top 40 in the nation.
  • Willoughby's 27.25 completions places him ahead of any other NE10 quarterback - Stonehill's Anton Stoneking is second, completing 15.5 passes per game, on average.
  • Among active NCAA Division II student-athletes entering the game, Brown is 12th with 120.11 all-purpose yards per game in his lengthy career. Fifth-year senior Ryan Sullivan (Stoughton, Mass.) is also among the active leaders in NCAA Division II, averaging 8.89 tackles per game to rank sixth in the nation.
  • Saint Anselm ranks third in the NE10 on third downs, converting 41% of the time. The Hawks have moved the chains 52.6% of the time on fourth down, the second-best mark in the conference - Assumption is second in the NE10 on third down (41.4%) but dead last in the league on fourth down (30%).

SCOUTING ASSUMPTION

  • The Greyhounds rank second in the nation by averaging 29.48 yards per kickoff return and are fourth in the land with just two fumbles lost. Furthermore, the program has conceded just 3.38 tackles per loss, per game - this is the ninth-best metric in NCAA Division II.
