MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team hosted Saint Michael's on Saturday and the Hawks held serve at home with a 5-2 triumph at the Derryfield School.
Saint Anselm improves to 4-8 on the season and to 2-6 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Saint Michael's falls to 1-10 on the year and to 0-8 against the league.
The No. 3 doubles duo of freshmen Elle Doucette (Newburyport, Mass.) and Abigail Svor (Lewiston, Maine) were the first to crack the win column with a 6-2 success, and Saint Anselm would secure the doubles point when junior Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) finished off the Purple Knights with a 6-3 victory. It was Doucette and Svor's third win in a row, and the pair of freshmen improved their doubles record to 4-1 on the fall season.
In singles action, freshman Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) propelled the home team to a 2-0 overall lead by way of her 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 6 position. At the top of the lineup, team captains Kapothanasis and senior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) would be the next to finish. Kapothanasis followed up her doubles win with an impressive performance at No. 1 singles, earning a 6-2, 6-4 win, which set the stage for Jacy, whose 6-3, 6-4 win at the No. 2 slot clinched team victory for Saint Anselm.
Freshman Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) went the distance at No. 3 singles, posting a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 three-set win, good for her fourth singles victory over the past five dual matches.
In a late afternoon exhibition singles match, Abigail Svor scored an 8-2 win over the Purple Knights' Sarah Knickerbocker.
