MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team held its final home match of the fall 2021 season on Thursday but came up short against Bentley University by a final score of 6-1.
Saint Anselm falls to 4-9 overall on the season and to 2-7 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. Bentley ups its record to 3-6, both overall and within league play. The Hawks round out the fall schedule of matches with a 1 p.m. showdown at regionally-ranked Adelphi on Saturday.
The Hawks had won the doubles point as a team in four of their five previous matches, but Bentley took the upper hand by scoring victories in all three contests. Saint Anselm's No. 1 duo of junior
Anastasia Kapothanasis (Westbrook, Maine) and freshman
Julia Svor (Lewiston, Maine) put up the closest fight, but lost in a tight match, 7-5. Bentley earned wins at No. 2 (6-2) and No. 3 (6-4) to grab early momentum heading into singles action.
In singles play, freshman
Julia Casaletto (Rowley, Mass.) sparked the home side, putting the Hawks on the scoreboard by posting a 6-4, 6-1 win at the No. 6 slot. However, the visiting Falcons would secure the overall victory by taking the other five matches.
Kapothanasis went the distance at No. 1 singles, but fell short by a final score of 4-6, 6-3, 6-3 in a three-set thriller.
Seniors
Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) and
Josie Hulbert (Loudonville, N.Y.) were honored following the match as part of the team's Senior Day celebration.
