GARDEN CITY, N.Y. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team traveled to Long Island for a Saturday showdown against Adelphi University, but the Hawks were unable to crack the win column and came up short by a final score of 7-0.
Adelphi took an early 1-0 advantage by sweeping all three doubles matches. The host Panthers posted 6-1 victories at both the No. 1 and No. 3 slots, with the Hawks best showing at No. 2 doubles. Freshman Olivia Parzick (Bow, N.H.) and senior Emily Jacy (Glastonbury, Conn.) were locked at 2-2 after four service holds, but the duo only managed to win one of the final five games, losing 6-3.
In singles play, Adelphi secured straight set wins at the top four positions, and then also won eight-game pro sets at No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
Jacy represented the visiting Hawks at No. 2 singles but lost 6-0, 6-1 in her final match wearing the blue and white.
Saturday's match marks the end of the fall campaign for Saint Anselm. The team team featuring five freshman finished with a record of 4-10 overall and 2-8 within Northeast-10 Conference play.
