PREVIEW: Men's soccer travels to Saint Rose

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team heads to the College of Saint Rose in a Northeast-10 Conference matchup on Saturday. The opening kick is scheduled for 4 p.m.

The Hawks dropped their last contest to the top-ranked team nationally, Franklin Pierce, 2-0. Junior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) made seven saves on nine shots on goal in the losing effort. Saint Anselm has dropped its last four matches and is now 4-5 on the season with a 2-4 mark in league contests. After the match with the Golden Knights, the Hawks conclude their non-conference schedule at Saint Thomas Aquinas on Tuesday, Oct. 12

The Golden Knights posted a 2-1 win in overtime over Le Moyne on Wednesday. Josh Elliot scored the overtime game-winner just 1:15 into the first extra period. Saint Rose improved to 3-4-1 overall with a 2-2-1 record in NE10 matches. The Golden Knights have a week off from contests as they host Assumption on Saturday, Oct. 16.

Fans attending the match at the Plumeri Sports Complex are expected to familiarize themselves with the Saint Rose spectator policy.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • After posting a 4-1 record to open the season including two NE10 wins over Bentley and Stonehill, the Hawks have hit a bump in the road, dropping their last four matches, all to conference opponents. Saint Anselm has been outscored 7-1 in its losing streak, despite either tying or outshooting their opponents in two of the four contests.
  • Underhill stopped three first-half shots and four second half shots while allowing just two goals against Franklin Pierce. The junior goalkeeper ranks fifth in the conference in saves (35), third in save percentage (.795), and fifth in goals-against average (1.00). He has also pitched three shutouts on the year.
  • Senior Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) leads the team in scoring with five goals and three assists for 13 points. Junior Josue Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo) follows closely with 10 points, stemming from four goals and two assists. Assantha has registered the last three Hawks goals to date.
  • Saint Anselm has found the back of the net 12 times this season. Joining Elliot and Assantha are senior Patrick Sorenson (Sturbridge, Mass.) and junior Jonathan Alves (Peabody, Mass.) and Taylor Silverstein (Concord, N.H.) who have one goal each this season. Silverstein and sophomores Zach Verow (Bedford, N.H.) and Thomas Prentice (Merrimack, N.H.) all have one assist.
  • Saint Anselm has a plus-three goal differential this season, scoring on 12 occasions and only allowing nine goals. The Hawks are tied for 10th in the conference standings with a .333-win percentage in league contests.
SCOUTING SAINT ROSE
  • The Golden Knights opened the season with a 1-2-1 record before opening NE10 play with a win at Southern Connecticut State. Since then, Saint Rose is 1-2-1, all against conference opponents. They posted a win over Le Moyne in their most recent contest.
  • Victor Boje Henriksen leads the team with four goals while Josh Elliot and Erick Radtke have each scored twice. The trio is responsible for eight of 11 Golden Knights markers on the season.
  • Kevin Winglosky is the only student-athlete with multiple assists as he leads the team with two. Seven other Golden Knights have one helper on the season.
  • Ryan Henning has started six matches while Tomas Rozman has started the other three matches. Henning is 2-4 on the year with a 1.65 goals-against average and a .643 save percentage. Rozman boasts a .87 goals against average and a save percentage of .824. He holds a 1-0-2 record this season. Rozman has started the last two matches for the Golden Knights resulting in a tie against Southern New Hampshire and the win over Le Moyne.
  • Saint Rose is tied for fourth in the NE10 standings with a .500 win percentage. On the season, they have a minus-two goal differential after allowing 13 and scoring 11.
ALL-TIME vs. SAINT ROSE
  • In the all-time series, Saint Anselm is 16-6 against Saint Rose. This will be the 23rd meeting all-time between the two programs.
  • The Golden Knights currently have a three-match win streak with two of the last three matches being won in overtime. The last meeting came on Oct. 12, 2019 which Saint Rose won by a 1-0 score.
  • The first meeting came on Sept. 22, 1996 and was a 3-0 win for the Hawks. That started a nine-match win streak that ended on Sept. 29, 2007 which is the longest streak in the series. Saint Anselm won on Sept. 6, 1998 and Sept. 24, 2000 by eight goals in each contest, marking the largest margin of victory the series has seen.
