Saint Anselm (13-3, 10-2 NE10), ranked second in the official NCAA Division II East Region rankings, will take on the top-ranked Greyhounds (15-1, 12-0 NE10) who have won 15 games in a row. Both teams have allowed just one goal in their last six games.

Assumption is the fourth-ranked team in NCAA Division II, according to the National Field Hockey Coaches' Association's national poll, while the Hawks recently moved up two spots to sixth in the country. The official East Region rankings are the ones use to determine berths in the NCAA postseason.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM

  • Saint Anselm came away with a convincing 7-1 victory over the hosts from Molloy College on Saturday. The Hawks used seven goal scorers to win their sixth game in a row, moving to 13-3 overall on the year and to 10-2 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents.
  • The Hawks out-shot the Lions by a combined 33-to-3 margin and were awarded 12 of the game's 14 penalty corners. The team's 17 points of offense is the ninth-most in a single game in team history and the seven goals is the sixth-most ever scored in a single contest.
  • Against Southern New Hampshire last Monday, the Hawks held the Penmen without a single shot attempt. The game prior against American International, Saint Anselm conceded just one shot but it was not on target. In the last three games, the Hawks have yielded four shot attempts and just two shots on frame.
  • Junior Maggie Malloy (Canton, Mass.) scored a goal in each of her team's two games this past week, logging the game-winning goal against Southern New Hampshire on Monday and later adding a goal versus Molloy on Saturday.
  • Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) had a four-game point scoring streak snapped last time out against Molloy. On the season, she has nine goals and two assists for 20 points (9-2=20) and ranks fourth all-time with 67 career points to her credit (29-9=67).
  • Saint Anselm has posted 28 shutouts (eight this season) in the team's last 40 games since the start of the 2019 season. The Hawks finished the year as the national runner-up in NCAA Division II and set a record for shutouts in a season (20), winning each of their games without conceding a goal.

SCOUTING ASSUMPTION

  • The Greyhounds have racked up an impressive 15-1 overall record to date, winning six out of their first seven home games while boasting an unblemished road record of 9-0. The team's lone loss came to West Chester, the reigning NCAA Division II Champions, in the home opener in overtime, 2-1.
  • Assumption leads NCAA Division II with an .851 save percentage and ranks second in both shutouts per game (0.5) and winning percentage (.938). The Greyhounds are ranked third in both assists per game (2.69) and goals-against average (0.68).
  • Kylie Gargiulo owns the league's second-best goals-against average (0.68) and save percentage (.851), trailing only Saint Anselm's Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) and her 0.51 GAA and .872 save percentage.
  • Mia Salah is averaging 0.81 goals per game, the ninth-best figure in NCAA Division II, while Jenna Graf's 0.56 assists per tilt is the eighth-finest in the country.
  • Long-time Head Coach Annie Lahey won her 100th career game at Assumption on Oct. 3 as her team defeated New Haven, 1-0. She has 107 career victories, ranking fifth among active NE10 coaches and trails only Saint Michael's Carla Hesler (177), Bentley's Jessica Spencer (135), Southern Connecticut State's Kelley Frassinelli (169), and Saint Anselm's Carolyn King-Robitaille (118).

ALL-TIME vs. ASSUMPTION

  • The Hawks own the narrow lead in the all-time series, 16-15. Saint Anselm lost the first seven games in the all-time series and later added a six-game winning streak over the Greyhounds that spanned from Sept. 8, 2016 through Nov. 16, 2018.
  • Saint Anselm knocked Assumption out of the NE10 playoffs in 2019, handing the Greyhounds a 1-0 defeat in the league's semifinals. The Greyhounds went on to lose to East Stroudsburg by a matching score in the First Round of the NCAA postseason.
  • The Greyhounds earned a 1-0 victory over the Hawks in the regular season in 2019. It was the first loss for Saint Anselm within NE10 play that year as Assumption fired 14 of the game's 17 shots – the Greyhounds had 12 of the game's 14 penalty corners awarded in their favor as well.
  • Despite the regular-season loss in 2019, Saint Anselm has won seven of the last eight games over Assumption since the start of the 2016 season.
