PREVIEW: Men's soccer set to battle with regionally-ranked Le Moyne

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's soccer team looks to match its win total from the 2019 season when it hosts regionally-ranked Le Moyne in Northeast-10 Conference play on Tuesday.

The Hawks have registered back-to-back wins, most recently securing a 1-0 overtime victory over Southern Connecticut State on Saturday. Saint Anselm evened its record at 6-6 with the NE10 win and after Tuesday's match, the team will head to Adelphi on Saturday, Oct. 23 with the opening kick scheduled for 12 p.m.

The Dolphins also played to overtime on Saturday, ultimately falling to Southern New Hampshire by a 1-0 score in double overtime. Le Moyne is 6-5 on the season and 3-4 in league matches. After playing the Hawks, the Dolphins host Saint Michael's on Saturday, Oct. 23 before wrapping-up their away matches with a pair at Stonehill on Wednesday, Oct. 27 and at New Haven on Saturday, Oct. 30.

SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
  • The Hawks game winner against Southern Connecticut State came off the right foot of freshman Vitor Rodrigues (Bedford, N.H.) just 2:15 into the first overtime period, his first collegiate goal.
  • To open the season, Saint Anselm jumped out to a 4-1 record for the second consecutive season but dropped the next five matches, falling to 4-6. However, wins over Saint Thomas Aquinas and Southern Connecticut State have gotten the team back to 6-6.
  • With the win, Saint Anselm moved into a tie for 11th in the conference standings to eighth, which puts them in the final playoff spot with four matches left in the regular season.
  • As a team, the Hawks rank 17th nationally in save percentage (.800). Junior Brian Underhill (Westford, Mass.) ranks second in the NE10 in total saves (48) while sitting third in shutouts (four), fifth in saves per game (4.00) and fifth in save percentage (0.800).
  • Senior Zach Elliot (Manchester, N.H.) and junior Josue Assantha (Bukavu, Democratic Republic of Congo) have accounted for nine of 15 goals scored by the Hawks this season. Six other student-athletes have registered a goal with five of the student-athletes registering their first collegiate goals.
  • Elliot recorded an assist on the game-winning goal on Saturday, bringing his season total to five which matches the most by a Hawks student-athlete since the 2017 season.
  • Saint Anselm has not allowed more than two goals in each match this season and have held their opponents to one goal or less in eight of the contests.
SCOUTING LE MOYNE
  • The Dolphins opened the season with four consecutive wins, downing downing Adelphi in their NE10 opener. Since then, they are 2-5 with three one-goal losses and four overtime matches, including a 1-0 double overtime loss to Southern New Hampshire in their last match.
  • Robert Rohrhirsh leads the Dolphins with six goals, putting him in a tie for sixth in conference. He also leads the team with 12 points. Michael Sparkes is second in scoring with three goals. He has seven points, adding one assist to his season totals. Nine players are responsible for the 18 goals Le Moyne has scored this season.
  • Joe Falcone is the team leader is assists with three. Jack Goodrich and Tom Henne have recorded two assists each.
  • Josh Mahr has started in all 11 games and played every minute of each game for the Dolphins in goal. He has a goals-against average of 0.96 which ranks seventh in the league, just one spot ahead of Underhill. He has accumulated 38 saves and an 0.776 save percentage. Mahr has posted four shutouts this season.
  • Le Moyne currently sits in a tie for sixth in the conference standings with a .429-win percentage. The Dolphins are in the majority of the conference with only seven NE10 matches played.
ALL-TIME vs. LE MOYNE
  • This will be the 27th meeting all-time between the Hawks and Dolphins. Le Moyne is 15-9-2 against Saint Anselm all-time.
  • The last meeting came on Oct. 23, 2019 and resulted in a 1-0 win for the Dolphins. Le Moyne is unbeaten in the last seven meetings.
  • The last two times the Dolphins came to Melucci Field, Le Moyne won in overtime on Sept. 27, 2016 and played to a scoreless tie on Oct. 13, 2018.
  • Saint Anselm won the first seven meetings, starting on Sept. 23, 1990 and ending on Oct. 9, 2000.
