Box Score MANCHESTER, N.H. – The nationally-ranked Saint Anselm College field hockey team recorded its fifth consecutive shutout, blanking American International College on Saturday by a 4-0 score at Grappone Stadium.
Saint Anselm moves to 11-3 overall on the season and to 9-2 against Northeast-10 Conference opponents. American International has lost seven in a row, dropping to 5-9 on the year and to 3-7 versus the league.
The Hawks have now won 57 out of a possible 63 games when playing at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2015 season. This season, Saint Anselm enjoys a 7-0 record when playing at home.
Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) scored twice to lead Saint Anselm. She moves all the way up to fourth place on the all-time career points list, racking up 29 career goals and eight assists for 66 points (29-8=66) and passing Elizabeth Sears '14 who logged 65 career points from 2010-13.
LaCasse also was credited with the game-winning goal and sits in a three-way tie for the all-time team record of 10. Allia Connolly '18 and Michelle Lemelin '20 each put home 10 game-winning goals in their respective careers.
LaCasse put the Hawks ahead by a 1-0 margin with just 10 seconds to go in the first half, scoring her eighth goal of the season off an assist from junior Joanna Archambault (Andover, Mass.). LaCasse batted a ball sent right-to-left by Archambault out of the air, giving the Hawks some momentum heading into the break.
She added her ninth goal of the season just 5:12 into the third quarter, scoring unassisted after putting home a loose ball in front of the American International net. Yellow Jackets goalkeeper Taylor Wildes made an attempt on the ball, but LaCasse shot across her body and into the far post to push her team ahead, 2-0.
Senior McKenzie Robinson (Mont Vernon, N.H.) was set up by sophomore Maddie Davis (Exeter, N.H.) with under 20 minutes to go, creating a 3-0 lead for the Hawks. Robinson collected her third goal of the year, scoring off a right-to-left pass from Davis that she swiped home past Wildes for the goal.
Davis picked up a goal of her own under two minutes later, receiving a diagonal pass from sophomore Abbey Bevens (Pelham, N.H.) and creating a 4-0 lead for the Hawks. Though the 60-minute game, the Hawks fired 21 of the game's 22 shots and received 12 of the game's 13 penalty corners.
Wildes made eight saves on 12 shots, drawing the loss. Sophomore Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) and freshman Sidney Falterer (Fairfield, Conn.) combined to earn the shutout for Saint Anselm – neither backstop faced a shot on net in the game.
