The Hawks recently picked up a 2-0 shutout victory over Bentley on Wednesday at Grappone Stadium, using two goals from junior Joanna Archambault (Andover, Mass.) on the way to the victory. Saint Thomas Aquinas is in the midst of a two-game losing streak, recently falling to 1-6 overall on the year.
SCOUTING SAINT ANSELM
- In Wednesday's victory over Bentley, the visiting Falcons shut down the Hawks in the first half of play, firing all six of the game's shots through 30 minutes. In fact, the Falcons racked up three of the game's four penalty corners as sophomore goaltender Mackenzie McConnell (Concord Township, Maine) was forced to make four saves in the second quarter alone.
- The Hawks broke through just 31 seconds into the second half as Archambault one-touched a ball at the top of the crease past the Bentley netminder. Senior Sarah Bagley (North Andover, Mass.) did well to keep possession on the far side of the field and sent a hard pass from right to left, catching up with Archambault for the goal.
- Just minutes later on a penalty corner, Archambault injected the ball to the top of the arc where junior Avery Tucker (Westbrook, Maine) was ready to receive. Firing a blast toward the left post, Archambault was there and ready for the tip home to put her squad up by a 2-0 margin.
- Bentley finished with a distinct edge in shots taken (13-to-4), but the Hawks were able to hold on thanks to a six-save performance for McConnell in the Hawks goal.
- Junior Maeve Murphy (Scituate, Mass.) became the program's first two-time NE10 Player of the Week award winner on Sept. 27, scoring three goals last week including two of the game-winning variety. Murphy is now one of just seven student-athletes in team history to be selected for the league's highest weekly honor.
- Senior Carly LaCasse (Sagamore Beach, Mass.) recently became the ninth student-athlete in team history to reach 50 career points, scoring against Saint Michael's on Wednesday, Sept. 22. Since joining the team in 2018, she has struck for 21 goals and added eight assists for 50 points (21-8=50). She needs just three points to jump all the way up to seventh place in team annals.
- LaCasse has scored seven game-winning goals in her career, ranking third all-time behind Allia Connolly '18 and Michelle Lemelin '20 who each scored 10 in their careers.
- Saint Anselm owns a 54-6 record when playing at Grappone Stadium since the start of the 2015 season.
SCOUTING THE SPARTANS
- Saint Thomas Aquinas owns a 1-6 overall record on the season with its lone victory coming against Mercy (N.Y.) on Sept. 16. The team has logged just three goals all year and has been outscored by a combined 20-to-3 margin.
- Olivia Cerbo, Lauren Cooper and Hailey Galison have each scored unassisted goals for the Spartans. Jessie Hohenstein has played all 420 minutes in net for Saint Thomas Aquinas, making 68 saves on 88 shots on net.
- Saint Thomas Aquinas has fielded a varsity field hockey team in each season since 2015 and recently joined the NE10 as an associate member in the sport. The team's best season came in 2019 when it logged a 10-10 overall record.
