In the next half inning with one out, Martin Morley hit a hard line drive to the right side for sophomore Matt Collins (Beverly, Mass.) to scoop up and throw the runner out at first. On the play, Collin Winters scored which gave the Cardinals a 2-0 lead.
Collins tied the game at two with a home run to deep left field to start off a five-run top of the fifth for the Hawks. Later in the inning, sophomore Enzo Merlonghi (Monroe, Conn.) brought in two runs after an error by the shortstop. A few plays later, sophomore Mike Pierro (North Andover, Mass.) converted on the shortstop's mistake and reached first on another error, scoring one. The Cardinals generated a big inning in the bottom of the seven, putting up four more runs to come back and take a three-run advantage. Saginaw Valley scored its runs off two singles and one double. That push flattened the Hawks momentum to close out the game, giving Saginaw Valley the win.
