MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior Peyton Steinman (Pittsfield, Mass.) of the Saint Anselm College women's basketball team reached 1,000 career points in Saturday's 64-55 victory over Southern Connecticut State University.

Saint Anselm has won nine consecutive games at home dating back to last season, improving to 15-4 overall on the year and to 11-2 versus Northeast-10 Conference opponents. The Hawks continue to hold first place in the Northeast Division ahead of second place Stonehill and Bentley (10-3). Southern Connecticut State falls to 8-13 on the year and to 2-11 against league foes.
Steinman, who entered the game with 991 career points, scored nine points in the first quarter to eclipse 1,000 for her 80-game career on the Hilltop. Averaging 19 points per game as a junior, Steinman becomes only the 22nd in team history to reach that milestone and has posted 12.7 points per game across the previous three seasons.
She finished Saturday's game with 24 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists. Senior Shannon Ryan (Plattsburgh, N.Y.), who was the last Hawks student-athlete to cross the 1,000-point threshold, poured home 13 points and added 15 rebounds with three blocks. Junior Grace Guachione (Pittsfield, Mass.) had 16 points with six rebounds and four steals.
Ryan eclipsed Megan Howard '12 to hold third place all-time in team history with 975 career rebounds.
Trailing by three early in the first quarter, the Hawks forged ahead with a 28-6 scoring run that put Saint Anselm ahead, 33-14, with 6:12 to go in the first half. The hosts opened up a 40-23 lead at the break, fueled by 13-point performances from Steinman and Ryan. As a team, the Hawks picked up 31 of the game's 43 first-half rebound opportunities.
Following an Amani Boston fast-break layup at the buzzer to conclude the first half, Southern Connecticut State carried its momentum deep into the fourth quarter, using a 21-5 scoring run to shrink the Hawks lead to 45-42.
Staring at a one-possession lead, Saint Anselm settled down and racked up 14 of the next 17 points to put the game out of reach. Steinman had six points in that span, followed by Ryan who logged four.
The Hawks hauled in 56 rebounds, outgaining the visiting Owls by 24 rebounds. The home team was whistled for only nine fouls in the contest while Southern Connecticut State, led by 28 points from Jessica Fressle, did commit less turnovers on the day (16-to-11).
Saint Anselm returns to action Wednesday, Feb. 5 for a 5:30 p.m. showdown at Assumption.
