WEST HAVEN, Conn. – The Saint Anselm College men's basketball team was tripped up by the host Chargers from the University of New Haven, 80-73, on Wednesday at Charger Gymnasium.

Saint Anselm falls to 10-7 overall on the year and to 6-4 against Northeast-10 Conference foes. New Haven evens its overall record at 8-8, improving to 6-4 versus the league.
Senior Danny Evans (Leeds, United Kingdom) scored at least 20 points for the second consecutive contest, logging 22 against the Chargers. Junior Chris Paul (Highland Mills, N.Y.) posted 18 points with 10 from classmate Gustav Suhr-Jessen (Virum, Denmark). Sophomore Miles Tention (Palo Alto, Calif.) posted nine points with six rebounds.
Saint Anselm trailed by an 8-2 margin in the early goings, but a 13-3 scoring run by the Hawks created a 15-11 advantage for the visitors. In that stretch, Evans had five points while Paul and Suhr-Jessen each canned four points apiece.
With the score deadlocked at 28, Saint Anselm closed the opening half by scoring 13 of the final 20 points to carry a six-point lead into the break. A triple from Evans in the final 12 seconds upped his team's lead from three to six points, capping off a strong first half where he poured in 16 of his team's 41 points.
Even at 56 only seven-plus minutes into the second half, New Haven scored 12 of the next 16 points to capture a 66-58 advantage with 9:20 left in regulation. Back-to-back jumpers from Paul and freshman Tyler Arbuckle (Bristol, Conn.) shrunk the New Haven lead to 66-64 with 6:43 left, but Saint Anselm conceded the next three points to trail by five, 69-64, with 4:52 to go.
A seven-point, game-tying run by the Hawks was capped with a dunk from Tention with 1:46 to go in regulation. The hosts eked out a seven-point win, however, by holding the Hawks scoreless down the stretch and making seven free throw attempts when sent to the line.
New Haven was led by 33 points from Elijah Bailey.
The Hawks return to action Saturday, Jan. 25, traveling to Central New York to take on the Dolphins from Le Moyne College at 3 p.m.
