Perkins wins third in a row, NE-10-leading Stonehill tops women's tennis

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins won her third-straight match at No. 1 singles but Stonehill College maintained its unbeaten mark in Northeast-10 play with an 8-1 victory over the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team on Thursday afternoon at South Tennis Courts.

Perkins recorded a 6-1, 6-1 win over Victoria Barbetta at the top singles spot for Saint Anselm (4-5, 3-5 NE-10), which saw its two-match NE-10 winning streak come to an end. Stonehill (8-1, 8-0 NE-10) won the other eight matches on the afternoon to keep its unbeaten NE-10 record intact.

Perkins' convincing win at No. 1 singles improved her to 8-1 at the top of the lineup this season and 35-6 in her two-plus seasons on the Hilltop.

Stonehill won the three doubles matches to get out to an early advantage. The closest match came at the second flight, where Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes suffered their first loss of the season by an 8-6 margin to Nicole Downey and Emma Prinos.

The Skyhawks recorded 8-3 and 8-2 wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles, respectively, and won the other five singles matches in straight sets.

Saint Anselm is back at it on Friday, Sept. 30 when the team heads to Yale University to take on The University of New Haven indoors at noon.
