Le Moyne sinks men's soccer in overtime

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Le Moyne's Callum Donnelly scored the game-winning goal 4:31 into the first overtime to give the Dolphins a 2-1 victory over the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon at Melucci Field.

Box Score

After the teams traded first-half goals, neither team could find a second goal until Donnelly put home a loose ball in front following a free kick from the right wing to win it for Le Moyne (5-2-1, 3-2-0 NE-10). Emmet O'Callaghan scored his third goal of the season for Saint Anselm (2-5-0, 1-4-0 NE-10) in the loss.

Marcello Palucci opened the scoring for Le Moyne just 9:05 into the game, firing a long shot from 35 yards out the flicked off the head of a defender and into the net. The goal was his third of the season.

A little over 10 minutes later, O'Callaghan added to his team-high goal total to even the score at 1-1. Dan Kelly launched a long throw into the box from the right and O'Callaghan took a touch to settle it before rifling it into the lower-left corner at the far post. Kelly's assist was the second-career point for the defender.

The score remained 1-1 for the next 70-plus minutes before Donnelly's overtime tally. Le Moyne held a 12-8 edge in shots in the game and took both of the shots in the overtime period.

Stephen McLeod made four saves for the Hawks, while Ben Beaury picked up the win despite not making a save.

Saint Anselm is back in action at Melucci Field on Saturday, Oct. 1 to face Southern Connecticut State at 3 p.m.
