MANCHESTER, N.H. – Assumption's Amanda Arnold scored the lone goal of the game midway through the second half to give the visiting Greyhounds a 1-0 victory over the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team in the team's home opener on Saturday at Melucci Field.
Box Score
Arnold scored her seventh goal of the season in the 69th minute off an assist from Emily Hill for Assumption (4-2-0, 2-1-0 NE-10). Goalkeeper Alexis Nason stopped all five shots on goal she faced to hold Saint Anselm (2-4-0, 0-3-0 NE-10) off the board and preserve the win for the visitors.
Arnold's goal came following a throw-in from the right side, as Hill found Arnold in the box and the forward found the lower-left corner for the lone goal of the game. Arnold's seven goals are the most in the NE-10.
Saint Anselm outshot Assumption 10-7 in the opening half and came within inches of opening the scoring in the 38th minute. After a foul just outside the box, Kendra Bonczar rattled a free kick off the underside of the crossbar but the ball somehow stayed out.
After the break, the Greyhounds took 11 shots to two for the Hawks and capitalized with Arnold's goal. Late on, Assumption nearly added a second but Hill's shot came off the post in the 89th minute.
