MANCHESTER, N.H. – Emmet O'Callaghan scored early in the second half to give the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team the lead but American International College responded with three goals to come away with a 3-1 win in Northeast-10 Conference play on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.
Box Score
After a scoreless first 45 minutes, O'Callaghan opened the scoring with his second goal of the year in the 54th minute for Saint Anselm (1-3-0, 0-2-0 NE-10) after being set up by Zach Heckt. However, American International (3-3-0, 1-1-0 NE-10) hit back less than four minutes later and added two goals in the last 15 minutes to pick up the road win.
The Hawks got on the board first came after Heckt played O'Callaghan in from the top of the 18-yard box and the sophomore fired the ball into the top-left corner from the right side of the box. The duo has now linked up for all three goals scored by the Hawks this season.
In the 58th minute, the Yellow Jackets evened the score at 1-1 on Sam Jepson's second goal of the season, as he put home a rebound after Stephen McLeod made a point-blank save to deny Jepson.
The score remained 1-1 until the 76th minute when American International's Alejandro Alvarez was slipped in by Ousmane Sangary and slid the ball under McLeod from the edge of the six-yard box. A little over two minutes later, the Yellow Jackets made it 3-1 when Jake Durham nodded in a Francisco Fernandes cross from the right flank.
The Hawks had a chance to get one goal back just 27 seconds after going down 3-1 but American International's Sebastian Tamayo denied Heckt from in close. Tamayo picked up the win by making four saves, while McLeod also made four saves in the game.
The Yellow Jackets took 15 shots to nine for the Hawks, while shots on goal were 7-5 in favor of the visitors.
