WORCESTER, Mass. – Jason Lages scored the only goal of the game in the 61st minute to give Assumption College a 1-0 win over the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team in its Northeast-10 Conference opener on Tuesday evening at Multi-Sports Stadium.

At the 60:53 mark, Lages cut the ball inside onto his right foot from the left side of the box and tucked a shot past Stephen McLeod to give Assumption (2-2-0, 1-0-0 NE-10) the lone goal on the night. McLeod made five saves for Saint Anselm (1-2-0, 0-1-0 NE-10) in the loss.
Ethan Morrow set up Lages' goal but was later shown a red card in the 84th minute after picking up a yellow earlier in the second half. However, the Hawks could not capitalize while a man up in the final 6:30 of the game, as Brian Murray saved a Dan Kelly shot inside the final five minutes.
Assumption took 17 shots on the night, while Saint Anselm had 12. The Greyhounds held a 9-3 advantage in shots in the opening 45 minutes before the Hawks outshot the hosts 9-8 after the break.
Lages had a game-high nine shots, four of which were on goal, while Zach Heckt led the Hawks with five shots. Murray stopped all three shots on goal he faced to even his record at 2-2 for Assumption.
Saint Anselm hosts American International on Saturday, Sept. 17 at 2 p.m. at Melucci Field.
