MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins, Tess Malerbi and Kaitlin Hughes each went 2-0 on the day as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team recorded its first Northeast-10 Conference win of the season by downing Franklin Pierce 6-2 on Saturday at Saint Anselm Outdoor Courts.

Box Score

Perkins and Malerbi posted identical 6-0, 6-0 wins at the top-two singles spots for Saint Anselm (2-1, 1-1 NE-10). Meanwhile, Hughes maintained her unblemished start to her collegiate career by partnering Perkins for a doubles win and winning her match at No. 4 singles in the win over Franklin Pierce (0-3, 0-2 NE-10).

Wins from the pairs of Perkins and Hughes and Malerbi and Meghan Golden at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles gave the Hawks an early edge after doubles. Malerbi and Golden picked up an 8-4 win over Sonia Rodriguez and Alana Wyatt at the top spot, while Perkins and Hughes rolled to an 8-0 blanking of Kara Brazel and Maria Quagliano at the second position.

Perkins' 6-0, 6-0 singles victory was her third such win of the season. Hughes downed Sara Rich 6-1, 6-1 for her third-straight singles victory.

Freshman Caroline Templer also recorded a 6-1, 6-3 win over Kelly O'Donnell at No. 5 singles, while the No. 6 singles match between Bridget Keefe and Maria Quagliano went unfinished due to rain with Quagliano leading 6-4, 4-5.

Saint Anselm plays its second home NE-10 match in as many days by matching up with Stonehill on Sunday, Sept. 11 at noon.
