MANCHESTER, N.H. – Four different players scored and 10 recorded a point as the Saint Anselm College men's hockey team blanked Saint Michael's 4-0 in a Northeast-10 Conference and New England Hockey Conference (NEHC) matchup on Saturday afternoon at Sullivan Arena on Smith Family Weekend.
Box Score
Nick Leonard, Jon Pallotta, Trey Aiello and Brendon Kerrigan scored the goals for Saint Anselm (2-3-0, 1-3-0 NEHC, 1-0-0 NE-10), which scored twice in the second and two more in the third. The Hawks also got a 24-save shutout from Shane Joyce, who kept Saint Michael's (2-4-0, 1-3-0 NEHC, 0-1-0 NE-10) off the board.
After a scoreless first period, Leonard got the scoring started on a short-handed breakaway at 2:13. After the Hawks cleared the zone, Leonard outskated the Purple Knights and rifled the puck into the top-right corner for his first of the year.
Just 2:17 later, Saint Anselm doubled its lead on a power-play goal from Pallotta, who exchanged passes with Trevor Kacz and scored from the left point. Jeremy Carignan also earned an assist on Pallotta's second goal of the season.
Early in the third, Aiello scored for the second time in three games to increase Saint Anselm's lead to 3-0. The freshman tipped in a shot from Dave Almeida in front of the net at 3:02 with Justin Longo earning his third helper of the year.
The Hawks added an empty-net, short-handed goal from Kerrigan at 12:21 after the Purple Knights pulled goaltender Chris Johnson after a timeout in an attempt to get back in the game. Lawrence Taylor IV and Peter Sikalis assisted on Kerrigan's empty-netter.
Saint Anselm outshot Saint Michael's 41-13 over the first two periods on its way to a 50-24 advantage in the game. The Hawks held the Purple Knights scoreless on eight power-play opportunities, even scoring twice short-handed, and were 1-for-4 on the man advantage themselves.
Joyce's 24-save shutout, his first of the year, evened his record at 2-2-0, while Johnson fell to 2-4-0 despite making 46 saves.
