MANCHESTER, N.H. – Jess Perkins and Kaitlin Hughes each won in singles and paired up for a doubles victory but it was not enough as the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team dropped a 5-4 decision to Gordon on Saturday at South Tennis Courts.

Gordon (7-4) took a 2-1 lead after doubles and got the three singles points it needed to end the three-match winning streak of Saint Anselm (7-6). In addition to the three points from Perkins and Hughes, Tess Malerbi won her fourth consecutive singles match for the Hawks.
Perkins and Hughes extended their winning streak as a pair to three matches and moved to 11-1 on the season with an 8-0 victory over Kaelyn Hall and Maddie Berry at No. 2 doubles. All three of the pair's consecutive victories have been by 8-0 scorelines.
Perkins dropped just one game in her No. 1 singles match against Abbie Denney to up her record to 15-2 on the season. Malerbi battled to a 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 win at the second spot against Justine Hanson to improve to 7-6 this season with her fourth win on the trot.
Like Malerbi, Hughes won her fourth match in a row with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Abby Caron at No. 4 singles. The win was the freshman's ninth of the season.
Hall, Berry and Haley Bean posted straight-set victories for the Fighting Scots and No. 3, No. 5 and No. 6 singles, respectively.
Saint Anselm wraps up Northeast-10 Conference play late next week with home matches against Southern New Hampshire University and Adelphi on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 14-15. The Hawks host the Penmen at 3 p.m. on Friday and the Panthers at 10 a.m. the next day.
