Men's soccer clipped at regionally-ranked Ravens

RINDGE, N.H. – Regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce University scored twice in the first half on its way to a 2-0 victory over the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team on Friday night at Sodexo Field.

Box Score

Jacob Blixt and Hamish Cadigan scored a little more than 12 minutes apart in the middle part of the opening half for Franklin Pierce (7-2, 5-2 NE-10), which was ranked No. 4 in the East Region by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) this week. Helio Meirelles Neto made six saves for Saint Anselm (2-7, 1-6 NE-10) in the loss.

The teams combined to hit the post three times in the opening 13 minutes of play. Cadigan found the woodwork in the ninth minute before Ken Desmarais and Alpha Fofanah struck the post 62 seconds apart.

The Ravens found the back of the net first in the 22nd minute on Blixt's seventh goal of the season. Casey Schehl's low cross from the left wing found Blixt at the top of the six-yard box and he made no mistake to open the scoring.

In the 34th minute, Franklin Pierce was awarded a penalty kick after a handball inside the box and Cadigan converted to double the hosts' lead. Cadigan's goal was his second of the season and capped the game's scoring.

Saint Anselm outshot Franklin Pierce 8-7 in a scoreless second half, although the Ravens held a 19-11 advantage in shots in the game, led by Blixt's seven attempts. Four Hawks had two shots apiece on the night.

The Hawks return home to face cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday, Oct. 11 at 4 p.m.
