Women's tennis wins at AIC for fourth victory out of five

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – The Saint Anselm College women's tennis team picked up its fourth win in its last five Northeast-10 Conference matches by virtue of a 7-2 victory at American International College on Wednesday afternoon at Central High School.

Jess Perkins, Kaitlin Hughes and Bridget Keefe were each victorious in both singles and doubles for Saint Anselm (6-5, 5-5 NE-10). The win improved the Hawks to 29-1 all-time against American International (1-10, 1-9 NE-10).

The Yellow Jackets won a close match at No. 1 doubles but the Hawks recorded wins at the second and third spots to take a lead into singles. Perkins and Hughes improved to 10-1 this season and posted their second-straight 8-0 win at No. 2 doubles. Bridget Keefe teamed with Lexi Stathis for an 8-3 triumph at the third spot in Stathis' first match of the season.

In singles, Saint Anselm earned five straight-set wins without dropping more than three games in any of the 10 sets won. Coming off a runner-up finish at the ITA East Regional, Perkins registered her eighth 6-0, 6-0 win of the season at No. 1 singles. The victory was the 41st singles win of Perkins' career, the most in recorded program history.

Tess Malerbi and Caroline Templer each evened their NE-10 records at 5-5 with singles wins. Malerbi secured a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles, while Templer won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 5 singles.

Like Templer, Hughes dropped just one game in singles to improve to 7-4 this season after a 6-0, 6-1 victory at the fourth spot. Keefe did not drop a single game at No. 6 singles, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 win.

Saint Anselm hosts Plymouth State on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m.
