Early goals lead Mercy past women's soccer

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Mercy College scored twice in the first 12 minutes en route to a 3-0 win over the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team on Tuesday afternoon in a non-conference game at Melucci Field.

Box Score

Mercy (8-2) got goals from Jessica Brandt and Haley Noble in the first 11:20 of play and a second-half goal from Alyssa Iannuzzi to secure the win over Saint Anselm (4-6-1). The meeting was the fourth all-time between the two programs in a series the Mavericks now lead 2-1-1.

The Mavericks got on the board in the first eighth minute on Brandt's third goal of the year. Noble crossed the ball into the box from the right wing, Heidi Serna cushioned the ball into the path of Brandt, who found the lower-right corner.

A little over two minutes later, Brandt set up Noble's eighth goal of the season to make it 2-0. Brandt got in behind the Saint Anselm defense and squared the ball to Noble in the middle for the Mavericks' second goal.

Saint Anselm prevented further damage until Iannuzzi fired in a long-distance shot into the top-right corner in the 60th minute to cap the scoring.

Both teams took eight shots in the game, with the Mavericks getting five on net and the Hawks three. Ashley Price picked up her seventh victory of the season with three saves, while Elise Bouchard made two stops in the loss.

Saint Anselm returns to Northeast-10 Conference play by hosting No. 4 Stonehill on Friday, Oct. 7 at 3:30 p.m. at Melucci Field.
