BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Sarah Lowery had 14 kills and hit .379 but LIU Post prevailed in five sets (25-18, 22-25, 25-5, 21-25, 15-11) over the Saint Anselm College volleyball team in the Hawks' third-straight five-set match on Friday evening at Pratt Recreation Center.

Saint Anselm (14-3) twice came back from a set down to even the match but came up short in the decisive fifth set against LIU Post (7-10). The Hawks did not play a five-set match in their first 14 matches of the season but have now gone the distance three times in the last week.
Lowery was joined in double figures in kills by Katy Teets, who hammered 13 kills in the match. Brennah Gladwill added eight and Madison Sollows pitched in seven with just one error. Jewel Hays and CC Chrisom each had a match-high 22 digs, while Hays recorded 38 assists in her first-career 20-dig performance. Chrisom's 22 digs moved her into 10th-place all-time at Saint Anselm with 916 in her career.
Lea Brady and Danielle Valenza combined for 33 of LIU Post's 54 kills, as Brady notched 17 while hitting .552 and Valenza had 16 kills and 13 digs. Giulia Genna tallied a double-double of 44 assists and 12 digs with Rachel Londot (16) and Abby Eckhardt (14) also in double digits in digs for the Pioneers.
In the decisive fifth set, LIU Post opened up an early 5-2 lead before Saint Anselm fought back to take a 10-9 advantage. The Pioneers responded with three-straight points to go up by a pair before a Sollows kill made it 12-11 in favor of the hosts. LIU Post then closed out the match with two kills from Brady and another from Valenza.
In the first set, the Pioneers used a 6-0 run to go ahead 7-3 and eventually led by as many as 11 at 20-9. Down by 11, the Hawks clawed to with six, 23-17, before LIU Post closed out the set 25-18.
LIU Post again built a lead early in the second, doubling up Saint Anselm 14-7 midway through the set. However, the Hawks won nine-straight points, three on Lowery kills and two on aces by Teets, to claim the lead. Teets hit a pair of kills late in the set to help Saint Anselm wrap it up 25-22 to even the match at a set apiece.
The third set was all LIU Post, which hit .500 and held Saint Anselm to a -.160 clip to take it 25-5. The Hawks replied with a mid-set rally in the fourth to send the match the distance. After trailing 15-13, Saint Anselm went on a 6-0 run on Chrisom's serve and led by at least three the rest of the set thanks to 16 kills and no errors for a .457 attack percentage.
Saint Anselm is right back at it on Saturday, Oct. 15 with a tri-match against Daemen and host Mercy in Dobbs Ferry, N.Y. The Hawks take on the Wildcats at 1:30 p.m. and the Mavericks at 3:30 p.m.
