MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team saw its three-game winning streak in Northeast-10 Conference matches come to an end as Franklin Pierce University scored in the 89th minute to defeat the Hawks 1-0 on Wednesday afternoon at Melucci Field.

With the clock winding down and overtime looming, Madison Finlay nodded in a rebound after Kiley Vermette's shot hit the crossbar to give Franklin Pierce (5-4-2, 3-4-2 NE-10) the victory. The Ravens outshot Saint Anselm (5-7-1, 3-5-1 NE-10) by a 19-7 margin, although shots on goal were 6-4 in favor of the visitors.
Vermette's winner was her sixth goal of the season for Franklin Pierce. Casey Cook logged a shutout for her fifth win of the season, making four saves in the process. Cassie Quattropani took the loss despite making five saves for the Hawks.
Franklin Pierce held an 8-1 advantage in shots in the opening half and came closest to scoring in the 30th minute when Roberta Martire looped a header over Quattropani but it came back off the post. The Hawks' best chance of the opening half came when Nicole Rust was played in on goal but the Ravens' defense recovered before she could get a shot away.
The Ravens again hit the woodwork midway through the second half when Sophie Cousineau was put through on goal but rang a shot off the crossbar in a 1-on-1 with Quattropani.
Rust had three of Saint Anselm's four shots on goal in the game, while Kiley Larocque added one. Finlay tallied a game-high five shots for Franklin Pierce.
The game was Saint Anselm's Cancer Awareness game, as the team sold over 400 bracelets and 100 shirts to raise nearly $2,500 in the last week. The money raised will be donated directly to the Jimmy Fund in Angela Kelly's name.
The Hawks visit conference-leading American International (8-4-0, 7-2-0 NE-10) on Saturday, Oct. 15 for an 11 a.m. kickoff.
