Elowitch and Kaufman send women's soccer to win over Pace

MANCHESTER, N.H. – First-half goals from Alexis Elowitch and Jessica Kaufman lifted the Saint Anselm College women's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Pace University on Homecoming Weekend on Saturday afternoon at Melucci Field.

Box Score

Elowitch gave Saint Anselm (4-5-1, 2-4-1 NE-10) a third-minute lead before Pace (5-3-2, 2-3-2 NE-10) struck back in the 10th minute to tie the game. However, Kaufman finished off a fine team move in the 37th minute for the game-winning tally.

After just 2:52 of play, Nicole Rust clipped a lofted pass to Elowitch on the left side of the box and the junior unleashed a curling right-footed shot over a diving Aisha Chauhan for the opening goal. Elowitch's goal was her second of the season, while Rust picked up her team-high third assist.

Not long after, Pace drew level as Emma Sinanan nodded in a Drew Ribadeneyra corner kick at the 9:02 mark. The equalizer came not long after Cassie Quattropani made a quick-reaction double save to deny Sinanan and Ribadaneyra in the sixth minute.

Kaufman provided the game-winner towards the end of the opening half as Caly Farina cut the ball back to Kaufman near the penalty spot from the left wing and Kaufman slotted the ball into the lower-left corner first time. Kaufman's goal was her second of the year, while Farina notched her second assist for her fourth point in the last four games.

Saint Anselm controlled possession in the second half and outshot Pace 9-3 after the break to see out the win. Shots for the game were 13-8 in favor of the Hawks.

Quattropani picked up her fourth victory of the season by making five saves, while Chauhan suffered the loss despite stopping three shots.

Winners of two-straight games, the Hawks look to make it three by hosting Mercy on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at 4 p.m. in non-conference action at Melucci Field.
