Box Score

MANCHESTER, N.H. – The Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team suffered a 2-1 setback to Castleton University in a New England Hockey Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon in Rutland, Vt. The Hawks fall to 8-6-1 overall with the setback and 5-5-1 in the NEHC.

Castleton (4-12-1, 3-6-1 NEHC) struck first only 5:13 into the first period as Caleb Fizer hit Derek Gingera with a pass leading to a break away chance which Gingera finished, giving the Spartans a 1-0 advantage.

The Hawks found an equalizer in the waning minutes of the second when Vin D'Amato (Sutton, Mass.) netted his second goal of the year - and the week - and fourth of his career. The junior forward picked up the puck near the left boards before skating through the crease and finishing a shot off the post to bring the game back to level terms, 1-1.

The two teams continued to battle for the lead throughout the final frame, and with 4:02 left in play, Simon Teodorsson notched the eventual game-winner at the 15:58 mark with his fourth goal of the year.

The Hawks pushed for a late equalizer and played most of the final two minutes of play without the goalie, but the Spartan defense stood strong to secure the 2-1 victory.

Both teams attempted 27 shots on goal in the game and both came away empty-handed in a combined 13 power play opportunities. Shane Joyce (Pembroke, Mass.) stopped 25-of-27 shots on the night while dropping to 7-5-1. Ryan Mulder picked up the win for the Spartans making 26-of-27 saves.

Saint Anselm returns to Northeast-10 Conference action on Tuesday night when the Hawks travel to Franklin Pierce University for a 7:00 p.m. face-off with the Ravens.
