NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mark Meads (Middleton, Mass.) scored a pair of third period goals to help lead the Saint Anselm College men's ice hockey team to a 3-1 victory at Connecticut College on Tuesday night. The Hawks improve to 8-4-1 overall, while the Camels drop to 3-7-2 overall.
Vin D'Amato (Sutton, Mass.) scored the game-tying goal, his first of the season, 18:09 into the second period to tie the game at 1-1, setting up Meads' heroics in the third period. Shane Joyce (Pembroke, Mass.) stopped 24-of-25 shots to pick up his seventh win of the season.
Connecticut College struck first 6:30 into the first period on the power play as senior Joe Birmingham scored off assists from Joe Giordano and Greg Liautaud. Near the end of the opening frame, Peter Sikalis (Acton, Mass.) had a chance to tie with a shot from the point, but it was turned away by Ausin Essery and the Camels took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
D'Amato knotted the score at 1-1 near the end of the second period off feeds from Bryan Green (Weymouth, Mass.) and Justin Longo (Wakefield, Mass.).
Mark Meads scored the eventual game-winner 6:41 into the final period as he was able to stuff home a rebound to put the Hawks on top 2-1. He later added an insurance goal on an empty-net score in the final minute to give Saint Anselm the 3-1 victory.
The Hawks return to action on Friday night when they travel to Skidmore College for a 7:00 p.m. matchup in New England Hockey Conference action in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
