EASTON, MASS. – The Saint Anselm College women's soccer team dropped its season opener Friday afternoon, falling 2-0 to Assumption College in a 2015 Catholic Cup semifinal at Stonehill College's Skyhawk Field.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Senior midfielder Rachel Gillies (Auburn, Mass.) led the team with three shots, while senior midfielder Callie Millet (Lancaster, Mass.), sophomore forward Alexis Elowitch (Portland, Maine) and freshman forward Corey Murray (Scituate, Mass.) each took two shots and put one on target.
• Junior goalkeeper Cassie Quattropani (East Hartford, Conn.) tallied three saves in her season-opening start in net.
• Assumption senior Paige Radomski assisted on both of Assumption's goals while goalkeeper Emily Kuzma posted her first shutout victory with four saves.
HOW IT HAPPENED
• Assumption, which was picked to finish second in the preseason NE-10 coaches poll, scored the game-opening tally in the 30th minute with a header off a corner kick that beat Quattropani near-post. The Greyhounds added a second goal late in the second half with a chip shot over the Saint Anselm defense to knock the reigning Catholic Cup champion Hawks into the consolation game Saturday.
INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
• Saint Anselm outshot the Greyhounds 15-13 overall, but Assumption put five shots on target while holding the Hawks to just four shots-on-goal.
• Assumption also took advantage of set pieces, accumulating five corner kicks—scoring on one—compared to Saint Anselm's one corner attempt.
NOTES
• Saint Anselm falls to 12-15-5 all-time against Assumption.
• The Hawks and 'Hounds will square off again on Saturday, Sept. 19 in Northeast-10 Conference action in Worcester, Mass.

• The Hawks will return to Skyhawk Field on the campus of Stonehill College Saturday to take part in the Consolation Game of the 2015 Catholic Cup. Saint Anselm's noontime Saturday opponent will be the loser of Friday night's semifinal between Saint Michael's-Stonehill, while Assumption will play the winner at 3 p.m. in the Championship.
