Pair of Second Half Goals Drops Men's Soccer at Saint Michael's

COLCHESTER, Vt. – Junior Stephen McLeod (Chelmsford, Mass.) recorded a game-high six saves, but the Saint Anselm College men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision at Northeast-10 Conference rival Saint Michael's College Wednesday afternoon at Duffy Field.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

• McLeod, who currently leads the NE-10 with 33 total saves and 6.60 saves per game, posted his fourth straight start with at least six saves and fifth straight complete game appearance.
• Senior Colin Mahoney (Peabody, Mass.), junior Zachary Heckt (South Windsor, Conn.) and sophomore Jack Heintzelman (Middleton, Mass.) each recorded a shot on goal for the Hawks.
• Saint Michael's Nicco Roque posted a three-save shutout, his second of the season.

HOW IT HAPPENED

• After a scoreless first half, Saint Michael's Cole McIntire broke through with a goal in the 54th minute, receiving a through-ball from Aaron DeCosta and netting it left post.
• Just over 10 minutes later, Saint Michael's scoring tandem flipped the script as DeCosta tucked a goal right post from McIntire at the 64:32 mark.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE

• Saint Michael's outshot the Hawks 18-7, including a dominating 9-2 advantage in the first half alone. The Purple Knights also held an 8-3 advantage in shots on goal.
• Saint Michael's earned seven corner kicks, compared to just one for the Hawks.

NOTES

• The Hawks were shutout for the first time this season Wednesday.
• Saint Anselm falls to 33-10-6 overall against the Purple Knights, but Saint Michael's has won three of the past four meetings.

UP NEXT

• Saint Anselm will return to Melucci Field for another NE-10 tilt against the College of Saint Rose Saturday afternoon. The men's team will play the second half of a double-header, following the Saint Anselm women's matchup against Le Moyne College at 11 a.m. Game time for the men's matchup against the Golden Knights is slated for approximately 2 p.m.
