Perkins Continues Hot Play as Women's Tennis Battles to 6-3 Loss at Stonehill

EASTON, Mass. – Sophomore Jess Perkins (Shrewsbury, Mass.) chalked up two more victories, but the Saint Anselm College women's tennis team dropped a 6-3 decision to Stonehill College on Sunday afternoon at the Sally Blair Ames Sports Complex.

STANDOUT PERFORMERS

  • Perkins scratched out a 6-3, 6-4 win against Bailey Paradiso at No. 1 singles. Perkins has now won 10 straight No. 1 singles matches and 14 of 15 dating back to last year. Perkins also combined with fellow sophomore Meghan Golden (Scituate, Mass.) for an 8-4 No. 1 doubles triumph against Paradiso and Emma Prinos. Combining both singles and doubles play, Perkins, who is a perfect 3-0 in both singles and doubles this season, is a red-hot 16-2 since Oct. 4, 2014.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Saint Anselm trailed 2-1 following doubles play before Perkins' win and a No. 2 singles victory by freshman Tess Malerbi (Scituate, Mass.) gave the Hawks' a 3-2 advantage. Malerbi, who was won two straight singles matches, was trailing Analise Kump, 4-1, when Kump was forced to retire.
  • Stonehill then seized control and won the match by taking the final four singles contests.

UP NEXT

  • The Hawks return to action Thursday, Sept. 17 at 3:30 p.m. when they play host to Bentley University.
