EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Junior CC Chrisom (Dover, N.H.) tallied a career-high 26 digs and the Saint Anselm College volleyball team split day one of the East Stroudsburg Invitational Friday, sweeping Bowie State (25-11, 25-14, 25-15) before falling to the host Warriors in the nightcap, 3-1 (25-23, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17), at Koehler Fieldhouse.
STANDOUT PERFORMERS
• Chrisom's match- and career-high 26 digs against East Stroudsburg bettered a 21-dig effort posted against Bentley two seasons ago. She also added a team-high six digs against BSU.
• Freshman Sarah Lowery (Chicago, Ill.) headlined the day offensively with 21 kills over the two-match slate to accompany 12 digs and three blocks—all coming against ESU.
• Sophomore Katy Teets (Dix Hills, N.Y.) added 20 kills total, including a team-high 12 in the sweep of Bowie State. She added seven of her 11 daily digs against ESU, as well as a solo block against the Bulldogs.
• Sophomore Amanda Bickford (Salem, N.H.) torched the Bulldogs for a career-high seven kills with no errors on a .583 hitting clip. She also posted two digs defensively.
• Junior Brennah Gladwill (Citrus Heights, Calif.) posted a team-high 13 kills against East Stroudsburg on a .333 hitting efficiency.
• Freshman Riley Grussing (Willmar, MInn.) added 16 assists in the victory over Bowie State.
• BSU's Marissa Martinez recorded a match-high 11 digs for the Bulldogs.
• ESU's Desiree Claxton tallied a match-high 23 kills on a whopping 63 attempts.
HOW IT HAPPENED
…vs Bowie State
• Saint Anselm came out hot in Friday morning's opener, cruising to a fast 25-11 first set victory.
• The Hawks made it a clean sweep with two more deciding set victories, 25-14 and 25-15, to pick up their second win of the year.
… vs East Stroudsburg
• Saint Anselm held the lead in the opening set against the Warriors, 22-18, before ESU stormed back to steal the first set 25-23.
• After holding off the hosts in the second set, 25-19, the Hawks staved off a pair of set points in the third before a service error swung the momentum fully into the Warriors' favor.
• ESU outhit Saint Anselm .220 to .091 in the fourth set, recording twice as many kills (16-8) to clinch the match victory.
INSIDE THE BOXSCORE
• Saint Anselm recorded a season-high .330 attack percentage in the three-setter against Bowie State, holding the Bulldogs to -.054 hitting on the morning.
• The Hawks also outhit ESU, .246 to .214, but the Warriors recorded 62 kills to the Hawks' 44.
• Saint Anselm won the blocking war 10-5 against ESU, but recorded five blocking errors in the matchup.
NOTES
• All 14 players dressed saw action for the Hawks against Bowie State.
• Saint Anselm moves to 2-4 on the year with Friday's split. East Stroudsburg picked up its first win of the year, improving to 1-3 overall, while Bowie State fell to 2-5 overall.
• East Stroudsburg improved its all-time record to 3-1 against Saint Anselm, while the Hawks took the inaugural clash against Bowie State in the history of the program.
