Blaszka's third period tally seals 3-2 win for Hawks

MANCHESTER, N.H. – Junior CJ Blaszka (Brookfield, Conn.) scored the game-winning-goal 9:43 into the third period to help lead Saint Anselm College to a 3-2 victory over cross-town rival Southern New Hampshire University on Tuesday night at the Thomas F. Sullivan Ice Arena.

The Hawks move to 5-2-0 overall and 2-0-0 in the Northeast-10 Conference with the win, while the Penmen fall to 2-5-1 and 2-1-1 in conference games.

Southern New Hampshire struck first in the opening period as Timothy Baylis tallied his second goal of the season on assists from Michael Bears and Sean McTiernan. McTiernan worked the puck free from a scrum, finding Bears along the leftwing wall. Bears played a pass to Bayliss coming down the middle and the sophomore buried the backhand goal to put the Penmen on top 1-0.

Brendon Kerrigan (Boston, Mass.) knotted the score at 1-1 exactly 10 minutes later for the hosts as he took the puck end-to-end, losing several defenders in the process, en route to unleashing a snapshot that tucked just inside the top left corner.

In the second period, the Hawks pulled ahead 2-1 following Brian Cameron's (Wakefield, Mass.) first career goal. Cameron tipped home a blast off the stick of Nick Gorski (Sandown, N.H.) that found the back of the net. The Penmen answered less than three minutes later as Baylis entered the scoring column for the second time on the night, this time shorthanded.

Blaszka's sixth goal of the season and eventual game-winner came 9:43 into the third and final period. The junior forced a turnover at the top of the face-off circles and fired a shot that rang off the post and into the back of the net to give the Hawks their fifth win of the season.

Shane Joyce (Pembroke, Mass.) picked up his fourth win of the season, allowing two goals while making 13 saves on the night. The Hawks outshot the Penmen at a 45-15 clip during the game.

Saint Anselm enjoys an extended rest period as they return to the ice on Friday, December 4 with a home game against the University of New England at 7:00 p.m.
